Description
Kubo has only his mother to turn to when it comes to family and they depend on each other mutually. Even at hard times with knowing that his grandfather and aunts were evil, he looked toward his mother as a form of warmth and comfort. For myself, I had a lot of people who I thought were close to me: friends, families, coworkers. Most of the time it's very one sided in where I bend over backwards in order to keep my relations with those I felt were close to me. In the end, I grew tired of being the only one who cared and when I stopped caring, no one seemed to notice, which spoke volumes of just how unimportant I was to them. I overcame this in the way I thought was better for both parties: I cut ties with them. Instead, I reach toward people who do matter to me without looking back. I wanted to represent this with the chain breaking away from Kubo as he falls from a dark area into a warm lake where his mother was waiting for him with open arms.
Kubo is a beautiful film and I'm so happy it exists! Thank you Laika, for this wonderful movie. ~

For some reason, your story also applies to Sariatu (Kubo's mother)
She too (alongside her Sisters) killed countless men to please a father who only saw her as a possession
But when she met Hanzo, she realized what love was
And she cut ties from him and her sisters

Ah, yes this is a really good observation. I suppose Kubo and his mother has more in common than I thought. Both had to sacrifice a lot of things, which is very selfless of them.

Sariatu did have to sacrifice her place in the Heavens to be with Hanzo
I also see that Sariatu shares your story, about how she was surrounded by people (her sisters and the Moon King)
who did not reciprocate her feelings for them
In the end, she left the Heavens to find someone who cared about her (Hanzo)
