Would this example only be helpful if your contouring for a male character, or could you use it also to contour for a female character?

Any character that you need to change your face shape for, this will work for. Just study what you need to change about your face, and use the contouring to make certain features more prominent or less noticeable.

Y'know, I took a stage makeup class this past spring. We went over contouring at least twice, once with a girl who actually did it along with us.
Your explanation makes way more sense than both attempts to teach us stage makeup.

I find people tend to over complicate it. Though honestly, it's a lot to cover, and a lot of it is quite simply "Go figure this shit out for yourself," I was even struggle bussing making while making it about how to cover everything. But thanks so much Cris!
