Description
Europe In a Subway MapIt's finally finished! That took couple of years. Well, I started to draw this after I finish Blue Landscape [link] but drawing took so long I felt I can't ever get it to completed and I gave up. It was so hard to draw with pens and ruler.
This is made using vectors and This is very much smaller than the original hand drew version. For example 24 towns are removed from Northern Europe and the same way from another areas but I made this a little wider to south and east because now there is clear theme. So, the cities are from countries that are in the EU or The European Economic Area (EEA) [link] or the Schengen Area [link] .
The map is very simplified. So, there isn't space for all the main/big cities. For instance the area in Germany where's Cologne (Köln), Düsseldorf, Essen, etc I had to choose only one and I chose Cologne (Köln) because it's known of culture and history. Also I chose Manchester in instead of Liverpool because there's more population in Manchester. Small areas like Monaco and Liechtenstein are ignored and Wales was also plan to ignore but it hasn't own element in the Union Flag [link] . So, I added Cardiff for sympathy
English city names are red colored and if the spelling isn't same in English the text is black because colored texts are easier to notice than colorless texts.
I like that the map looks like a city map and also geographical shapes are visible. I have used logic that is typical for subway maps where distance doesn't matter. For example real distance between Wien and Bratislava is shorter than between Munich and Wien but the map Is drawn a way how to make lines look simple. In some cases I've done classifications like Geneva and Nice are situated more left because those are French speaking cities.
Comments are very welcome!

How faster this metro would be, 10000 km per hour".? Love it , it's like 5 minutes from Paris to Lisbon. 🐆🐆🐆
If I have to work at London tomorrow, I just get a train and make 10 minutes from Milano.

And, as I read in a suggestion in a comment before, perhaps the line could run: Frankfurt, Dresden, Prague, Brno, Krakow?

There are only 3 stops from London to Dublin by subway. It's perhaps six minutes. Where you need slow and polluting ferries if you can pass the same way by rails on seafloor. I hope the tunnel from Oslo to Reykjavík is made by transparent materials. How about spotting a whale from a train window instead of reading a book.

I've chosen the cities by population not by the political status nevertheless you can find the capital cities. That's just because the capital cities usually are the biggest cities of the contries. If there would be more stations in Portugal also Aveiro could be there. The whole map should be drawn different way to fit so many cities in Portugal, keeping the big picture looking nice at the same time. Porto would be logical to add, but then the blue line would turn back to north. This is an art work in the end. So, the shape of lines has high priority. It's pritty much longer way to get the nearest station from Aviero, if Porto is missing, but think about someone who lives in Tromsø.

Haha this is awesome XD Great idea!
So you took the english name, or the local name?
Because for Gdansk also exists the german name Danzig (It was german till 1945).
A line from Prag over Dresden to Frankfurt would be cool too^^

There is two names only if the English name is different than the name in the most spoken local language. The most spoken language in Gdańsk is Polish. Well, the Polish name is Gdańsk and the English name is Gdańsk. I Knew the history and the German name, but unfortunate I didn't make this map in German. I wanted to name this map by local names, and the English names are below to help people to read.

I like this map - I can't believe I haven't seen it before!
Just a little thing though - If Palermo is named in Sicilian first, shouldn't Cardiff be in Welsh (Caerdydd) and Dublin & Cork be in Irish (Baile Áitha Cliath & Corcaigh)? Especially since Welsh and Irish have official status

I'm glad you like!
Well, the names risen up are the names which are used by the majority of local people. English is the dominating language in Cardiff and Dublin.

...but - there is only metro lines - that don't exist for sure.
Well, why not your house woudn't be there. I just can't see where, because there is no buildings drawn. Such a confusing dilemma.

Yeah, that may be fun to look at visited "stations" if you've much been in big cities. I've been only in nine of those cities but also near by some others.

I love subway maps and I like the idea of unitary Europe. I don't want to see stong borders drawn between national countries that are seperated with common language in Europe. The EU have cleared our hurdles from borders. So, travelling isn't hurdling anymore but still there's much to do. It was very nice to visit in Poland and Países Bálticos that joined in Schengen zone at 21st December 2007. That was wonderful exploration and I got much good photos [link] to my gallery.
I think this is better than the original hand drew version that would have been drewn as my design drawings because it was clearly megalomaniac. So, this version is easy to look at and also enough big to got stuck looking at this. The original plan was limited Lyons to south and east edge was very unclear. Actually the area was surroundings of the Bay of Biscay, the Irish Sea, the English Channel, the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Baltic Sea. I like this EU thema is clear and that way better.
Think about if Euorope would be a huge motropolitan city. there would be a terrible language mess. Some of the city names was difficult to write using key board like Łódź was English writing form.
