Description
This is a picture I did of a meerkat standing on a rock. It's taken from my hubby's photograph of meerkats at Tilgate Nature Centre in Crawley, Sussex, UK.

Meerkats are found in the southern African desert region. They often stand on their hind feet, doing so to give themselves a better view of their surroundings to look out for predators, prey and rivals. They are known for tackling and killing poisonous snakes. They're able to do this because they've got some immunity to the snake's venom. They mark their territory using a pouch that's at the base of their tail near their anus. They're very sociable animals living in large gangs of around twenty to fifty members. They also live in burrows when not above ground.
