Description So we have the final episode of Eureka. I was kind of hoping to have some kind of half hour finale, but I think the two segments here do a good job in showing what makes the show work. Let's dive into this.

1. Never Ending Snorey

Writer: Jason Mayland

Director: Daniel Cantwell

Date: March 24, 2023

Synopsis: "Eureka deals with snoring animals."

We start things out with a bang. It's Eureka's birthday today, and she couldn't be more excited. However, she also has to deal with sleeping animals blocking the path to her party. This episode goes for two messages:

1. Don't let your ideals be challenged when faced with impossible odds.

2. Good gifts can come in unexpected ways.

Let's break this down.

First Half:

You know an episode is going to be good when we start out with good old Pepper energy. She excitedly wishes Eureka happy birthday and wonders where she is while roller skating. Talk about going all out, but this is nothing new for her. The party is at the ice cave, and she's surprised when seeing Barry's life-like ice sculpture of Eureka. That definitely took a lot of effort to make. Eureka is inside with Rockanne getting the party ready. There's a sense it giddiness with how she gets ready for her big day. I mean, she put out daisies on the ramp she made. In fact, she even sings about it in a song called "Smooth As Ice", a song about how she's excited for her birthday and that things will go smoothly. It's definitely quite an upbeat and fun song that highlights one thing, how she thinks big yet also thinks of others first. She mentions doing things with her friends like making cupcakes and party favors, scattering daisies everywhere, making the walls sparkle, and letting everyone dance. That certainly sounds like quite a lot, but they make it work. It's mainly when she says how she was planning for a year. Them all shows how she likes to think things out in advance with little risk, yet places more priority in being with the people she loves. It's pretty cool.

As she gets ready, a snorosaurus comes by and sleeps in front of the cave on the ramp Eureka set up. According to Rockanne, he, like other snorosauruses, likes to sleep in front of the daisies. There is a sense of gentleness with how he sleeps, depicting his calm and friendly personality well. Pepper and Barry think of naming him Snorton (voiced by Fred Tatasciore), and he won't wake up even when they try to ask him. He's really deep in his sleep. Rockanne says how they can sleep through anything loud, which Eureka isn't really cool with. She tries to make him go away with a loud sound by making an amplifier to make Barry's drums louder. But alas, he sleeps through it. He snores through the amplifier, but everyone covers their ears to avoid the loud sound. Yeah we don't need to torture their ears. There's already enough problems here. Eureka then thinks that she could move the ramp so that he can sleep while getting him away from the party, which Rockanne thinks is alright. I think this works. She didn't try to go further with the loud sounds, which could've potentially made him unhappy. She at least tries being considerate to what others need. Just as she tries to get Murphy and Dipply to pull the ramp, a much bigger snorosaurus comes by. This is the mother, who they name Snoro Maura (voiced by Javier Munoz) because of how affectionate she is. The only thing that can move a snorosaurus is another snorosaurus. It seems like she's going to move, but then she sees the daisies, and falls asleep alongside him. That's not good. It's no surprise that Eureka is shocked by this.

Second Half:

Roxy and Rollo come by to help get things ready, and they're also shocked by the snorosauruses. Eureka thinks that they should postpone, the party so that no one has to deal with this, but then her friends come. This is definitely going to be awkward. They wish her happy birthday and talk about activities like face paint and pin the tail on the mammoth. Of course, when seeing the snorosauruses, they're also surprised. Pepper says how they'll just do everything outside, such as using her berries for face paint. That's certainly quick thinking, but she is all about acting first and thinking later. Rockanne says she would teach everyone her dance, saying that they should keep dancing even when things seem impossible. I like this little moment in how it shows she perseveres even when things seem upside down. She tries to teach the dance even as everyone messes up, but doesn't mind it too much.

Eureka appreciates the effort, but she thinks that this is something impossible to overcome. This leads to a really nice moment between her and Barry. He says how it seems that way, but he says that she's done the impossible before and can do it again. He brings up how she made a water wheel to power up the swing set in "What A Wheel" and used steam to make a pizza oven in "Everybody Lava Pizza". This moment is pretty good. It builds off of previous episodes to show how Eureka went above and beyond to overcome impossible odds. It also fits with how Barry is someone who knows how people feel and will be open and honest in making them feel better. It's really nice. Eureka sees how he's trying to get her to do some thinkering, and he says that this is a problem, but if this inspires her to think of something, it'd be a great gift. It's definitely an unconventional idea for a gift, but then again, Eureka is an unconventional person. She tries to think of something, but she can't think of anything. The ice sculpture starts to melt and look droopy, which Eureka says reflects how she feels. We see that Snoro Maura is snoring in front of the ice sculpture, which is why it's melting. It's here where she gets an idea. She thinks of using some ice and her snores to create a steam powered engine that's big enough to move her. This is definitely some brilliant thinking. She's using something natural of the snorosauruses to her advantage without disrupting their nap. That's both creative and considerate, which I like. Using Paleo To Go, she makes a train (called You Snooze You Move) that's powered by steam that can move the ramp. Everyone rides the train as they have a good time and see more snorosauruses. This also leads to some really fun moments of adoration. They reunite the family, and everyone goes back to the cave to celebrate. This is definitely solid.

2. Thinkering-inker-inkering

Writer: Erica Rothschild

Director: Giedre Kaveckaite

Date: March 24, 2023

Synopsis: "Eureka can't stop thinkering."

So we have an episode that definitely makes you thinker. Let's talk about it. It's about Eureka being really into thinkering as she's trying to also do a school field trip. That's the basic gist of it, but it works. We again have two messages:

1..Everyone has their own way of doing fun things.

2. Don't focus too much on doing something, or you'll miss doing fun things with others.

Let's break this down.

First Half:

We start with Ohm bringing everyone to the library for a field trip. Chee says how, for this day, they can be as loud as they want and even eat in the library, which Pepper really likes. No doubt a rule free day like this would make anyone happy. She says that they're going to decorate cookies today, which really makes everyone excited. It's arts and crafts that you get to eat. Who wouldn't be excited for this? She says that the great thing about cookies is that they're blank slates and can be made in any way. If you know Eureka, she sees the world as a blank canvas waiting for her touch. As Eureka tries to make her cookie, she gets bothered by dripping water. Chee tells her how there's a spring above the library that slowly washes away the ground above, and it finally leaked inside this morning. Eureka says how they can patch it up, but Chee says that water always wins since it would just come inside a different way. That's quite the conundrum, but that's not going to get her down. She goes back to her friends and Pepper says how she saved her a cookie, saying how it's her idea of fun. That is certainly true. She likes being hands on with what she makes, albeit in a messy way while Eureka is more about the big picture.

Eureka is still bothered by the leak. However, she gets an idea to use bamboo and vines to make pipes to redirect the water. That sounds pretty good. There are some things you can't control. It's just about making the most of it with what you can do. She tells Chee her idea, which makes her excited, but then she says how she's going to start on it right away. Chee is surprised by this since she would miss the cookie decorating, but she says she can finish in time. Yeah Eureka's overconfidence is showing. For as flexible as she can be and come up with ideas on the fly, she's not invincible. She makes the pipes outside and shows it to Chee, which she likes. As she tries to settle down and make cookies, she sees Barry putting a flower design on his cookie. She then thinks that she should help the flowers, and leaves. You would think she's going a bit overboard with her desire to fix things up. In a way, she is, but for good reason. She tells Murphy that she's going to add some more bamboo and vines so that she can redirect the water to water the dry plants since he doesn't have much food to eat. If it's for the sake of the animals, who she loves a lot, she would take action to help those who can't help themselves. She goes back inside and doesn't like that she missed a lot, but still wants to join them.

Second Half:

As Pepper gives her coconut sprinkles, she gets the idea of adding sprinklers to help even more plants and flowers. This presents an interesting dilemma. She wants to go, but doesn't want to miss cookie decorating. She goes ahead with it anyway since she thinks it'll just be a few minutes. She's too focused on making things better that she's missing out on her own personal time to have fun, yet it's still done in a way where she wants to please everyone. She goes ahead and adds the sprinklers, which waters more plants and flowers. You'd think this would be the end, but that's not the case. She goes back inside and sees Ember spinning a cookie, which gives her an idea to make spinning sprinklers. She comes back inside and sees Bog and Clod with animal cookies, and gets the idea to make a water bowl station for the animals. Yeah she's really giving 110% in making this into basically a mini paradise. We get to see the downsides in how she's not focusing enough on living in the moment. However, we also see the upsides in how she's making so many people happy, not just herself.

She comes back inside again and is bummed to see that cookie decorating is now over. She feels bad for missing out on this, not helped by Bog saying that she doesn't make good choices. At least Pepper and Barry made her a cookie, but it's just a small consolation. This does highlight a flaw of Eureka, mainly in how she feels so obligated to follow through with an idea that she doesn't have time to slow down and enjoy what's around her. At least it gets better from here. She feels bad about this until she sees everyone having fun with the water, with Pepper calling it a water park. She still feels somewhat bad for missing out on the cookie decorating, but Chee asks if she had fun doing this today, and she says she did. Though she did miss out on the cookie decorating, this would technically count as a good day. She got to hemo people and make a real difference, which is always enough for her. Pepper and Barry say how everyone has their own way to have fun, and they emphasize this with the song "All Kinds Of Fun". I find it odd how the final song of the series is sung by Pepper and Barry, with Eureka just on backup, but I think it works. It's to show how she's done so much that she should let others help her out. They talk about the things they like to do as they go all over Rocky Falls, whether by running or hot air balloon. There's some fun callbacks like Barry playing drums or Pepper bouncing around 32 times. It's all to show that every way of having fun is good. It's just about knowing what you want to do and keeping your priorities together. Eureka feels better about doing what she likes to do even if she missed out on the cookie decorating. She sees Pepper squirt fruit spread and gets another idea. She adds a water fountain to make the place pop. Now that's awesome. She managed to make the library more beautiful and full of life. If you know Eureka, she can take inspiration from the most unlikely of places. Chee says how she basically made the library garden so that the animals can be well cared for and everyone can be as loud as they want. It's pretty cool. She then says that she can arrange for another cookie decorating session in the future, which Eureka likes since she can get more Invention ideas and make cookies too. And that's how the show ends.

So that was the final episode of Eureka. It's definitely something I didn't think would go out like this, but it does show the impact Eureka the character has on others. She can inspire others with her determination, big heart, and willingness to do the right thing. That's really great. Thank you to everyone for making a great show.
