Description 1. Paleo To Go

Writer: Elliott Maya

Director: Norton Virgien

Date: March 10, 2023

Synopsis: "Eureka makes a snow mover."

This is an episode that's quite fitting for this time of year. It's about Eureka wanting to get soup to everyone, but the snow stops her. The episode gives a solid message on how family time makes everything better. Let's break this down.

First Half:

Things start out on a pretty nice note with a white blanket of snow as Eureka is helping her parents make Paleo warm by putting out hot coals. You already her good vibes with how she sings to herself a little, showing how she makes everything fun. We see that Roxy is making sweet potato soup for sweet potato soup night. Eureka tries out the soup, and thinks that this is the best soup she made and wants everyone to try it out. The way she describes it helps out, such as bringing up the sage and sweet potatoes before just cutting to how awesome it is. Roxy says how it's a family effort and everyone is putting in the effort to make it great, including Rollo making some new soup bowls. Yeah she's definitely someone who puts emphasis on the team effort and not just what she does.

Of course, things won't be easy. Eureka thinks that everyone is excited for sweet potato soup night when Murphy comes in with a bunch of cancellations from most of her friends. Pepper and Barry would usually be the exceptions since they do everything with Eureka, but even they don't show up. Eureka sees that there's a lot of snow outside when she gets calls from them saying that they're going to cancel since their families say that there's too much snow. Yeah you can tell they want to go, but you can't really go against family when they give good advice like this. Eureka tries to entice them with the allure of soup, and they try to leave, but it's too cold. Yeah that'll definitely get the message across. Barry says that staying at home isn't too bad since they can make their own games and Pepper says that icicle soup isn't too bad. Talk about looking on the bright side of things. Plus, at least she doesn't try to press the issue further, showing sensitivity. When Eureka says how they cancelled Roxy thinks of telling Rollo to stop making pots, but she doesn't want their efforts to be undermined. Yeah she's someone who doesn't want any hard work to be undermined. Eureka wants to overcome this problem, and Roxy wishes for the snow to disappear, for which thinks she can get rid of it. She shovels for quite a bit, but only a little bit of snow is removed. Yeah since it's thick and plentiful, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. As they go inside to warm up and salt the soup with pink salt, Murphy accidentally drops the salt. Eureka sees that the salt melted the snow, and gets the idea to make a snow plowed called The Snow Away to clear it quickly. Well, she's definitely one to take the initiative to tackle her problems.

Second Half:

Eureka and Roxy work together to clear a path to Paleo, and are able to go around Rocky Falls. Teamwork makes the dream work. Eureka meets up with Barry and tells him about how she got rid of the snow. She thinks he wants to go to Paleo, but he says that while he wants to go, he and his family are having fun making and playing board games. There's elements of creativity and camaraderie, both of which he values. He would put something like this first if this is more pronounced. She sees that it's fun, and goes to check up on Pepper. Although she also wants to go, she and her family are in the middle of an ice sculpture competition, and the winner gets to wrestle a stuffed polar bear. Yeah this sort of physical force would be enticing to her. Of course, she's bummed that her friends aren't going to experience something as great as this.

Eureka sees how her friends are happier at home, and Roxy sees that they're happy being with their families. Eureka sees that she likes spending time with her family, and much like Roxy, wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. This is definitely a moment of realization for Eureka, and it works. She wanted to make everyone happy, yet didn't take into account what people need and want. By that, I mean, she focused more on getting them here despite the dangers. Nonetheless, she still tries being respectful. She wishes how there would be a way for everyone to spend time with their families and get the soup. She sees the warm soup, hot rocks, and pots, and gets the idea of making a delivery sled so that she can bring the soup to them. Now that's being innovative and considerate. You bring the goods to them, not the other way around. She gets help from Roxy to deliver the soup to everyone as they sing "Sweet Potato Soup", singing about how sweet it feels to go around and make everyone happy while they stay with their families. It's definitely really sweet and the teamwork they show makes this all the better. You really get a sense of community from this. Eureka had a lot of fun today, and enjoys soup with her family at home. That's a nice, cozy way to end an episode like this.

2. Flower Power-er

Writer: Aydrea Walden

Director: Maeve Garvan

Date: March 10, 2023

Synopsis: "Eureka makes an invention that upsets Murphy."

It's time for a little sensitivity training. It's about Eureka making an invention that's a with her friends, but not Murphy. She's conflicted over what to do. The episode gives two well written messages:

1. Don't be afraid to stand up to your friends even when it's not easy.

2. There are things that people dislike, and that's okay. You should respect how they feel.

Let's break this down.

First Half:

We start with Eureka and Murphy getting ready for Rollo's pottery show with some music. Yeah it's good to start with them being in sync since it shows how they have a close bond. Rollo has the pottery and Roxy will be making the snacks. After this, Eureka shows off an invention she made called The Flower Power-er and shows it to Murphy. You stomp on one end and flowers come out the other end. That looks pretty cool to me. There's just one problem. When she tries it out, Murphy acts rather nervous and jumpy around it. Eureka is confused at first until she sees that he doesn't like the sound. It makes sense. For as tough and large as he is, he's also rather sensitive. He would definitely feel uncomfortable around something that seems unpleasant. She wants to make everyone happy and tries to put it away so he doesn't feel uncomfortable, which is considerate of her. She immediately wants to get rid of anything that causes problems for her loved ones.

Things don't go as planned when her friends arrive. They're shown to be surprised that she would try to hide an invention before showing it to them. This makes sense since she usually tries to be immediately generous and show off what she made for others. When seeing the Flower Power-er, they like how explosively colorful it is, especially Pepper. She tries to say that Murphy doesn't like it, but her choice of words could've been better. She says that he doesn't like it, but they just think that maybe he was just startled, bringing up how Dipply and KB like the invention now after being startled. They do put quite a bit of pressure on her, yet it works here. They're not being mean since they just think that something like this involves an adjustment period. They're just too excited to focus on it, especially Pepper and Barry. Nonetheless, she decides to talk to him. She thinks of launching his favorite treat from it, but he still acts jumpy and doesn't go after it. Yeah this would be the equivalent of putting someone's favorite food in a trap. Sure, the treat is good, but the risk isn't worth it. No wonder he flinched. She sees that he really doesn't like it, and tries telling everyone not to use the Flower Power-er for the show. Note how she says that they can't use it for the show. She never said that they couldn't use them at all. She still wants them to have fun and he happy. Of course, things don't go as planned when she sees that her friends found the other ones she made. Lark asks if they can use them around town despite them being for the show. Yeah that's overstepping boundaries, but at least it's for the sake of making others happy. Eureka tries saying no to them, but they don't hear her since they're too excited. It doesn't help that the invention is loud.

Second Half:

We have Eureka moping since she's not sure what to do. In fact, she even sings a blues song called "Get The Blues". She sings about being conflicted on making her friends happy since they like her invention yet doesn't want to make Murphy feel uncomfortable even more. You definitely feel a sense of power from this song. She places great priority in not wanting to disappoint others and making them hurt in some way. As such, everything here hits harder. The strained yet somewhat flowing movement she has shows how she feels trapped between a rock and a hard place in wanting to please others and wants to be free of this hard choice. It's pretty impactful. Of course, just because she let out these feelings, that doesn't mean she can stick the landing during the real thing. She tries telling everyone to not use the Flower Power-ers at the show, which they're shocked about. Lark asks Eureka if she's going to take them away. You just feel a sense of innocence and sadness when she says this since she doesn't want them to be deprived of something that brings people joy. When she says she doesn't want to take them back, they keep playing. Yeah she focused too much on potential disappoinment and not enough on getting right to the point. Her emotions got the better of her.

At least things get better after here. Roxy sees that Eureka is unhappy despite making a great invention, and she tells her what happened. Roxy asks Eureka to try the avocado pumpkin smoothie she made. Eureka tries it out even though she doesn't really like the taste and texture of avocado. Note how she never said that the drink is bad because of it having avocado. She's just not that into it. To her surprise, it's a plain old pumpkin smoothie, and she went out of her way to do this since everyone else likes avocado. Roxy says that she wants her to be happy even if there's something she doesn't like. It probably helps that Eureka wasn't being critical. She was being mindful of her words when sharing her thoughts. Eureka sees that she should've thought of Murphy's happiness and Roxy says that people will listen to someone saying no if they explain why. And that's just what she does. She goes to tell everyone to use them at home and not the show. They're initially surprised at first, but when she says how she doesn't want to make Murphy uncomfortable, they're quite understandable. She goes over why he doesn't like it, which helps them be more mindful. She says it's like how she doesn't like avocados, which they're initially surprised by. It's then followed up by Pepper and Lark saying how they don't like chocolate and swimming respectively, which everyone is fine with. This normalization of people's dislikes helps kids see that it's okay to dislike something as long as you're mindful and open with what you say, which works here. As for the matter of music, Murphy plays music at the show. At least this episode ends on a happy note.
