Description Note: This episode aired out of order. This is important since it formally introduces Valerie and the flight school. I'm still reviewing it as if it aired first.

1. Cleared For Takeoff

Writer: Nicole Dubuc

Director: Michael Daedalus Kenny

Date: February 7, 2020

Synopsis: "Kit wants to prove she's responsible enough to go to flight school."

Here we have an episode with a simple plot that manages to say a lot. Let's talk about it. This episode involves Kit wanting to prove she deserves to go to flight school. Sareena then puts her to the test by asking her to deliver some lunches to people in town, those being the mayor, Farmer McGinty, Malcolm from the control tower (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui), and her Grandpa Ambrose. However, there are various obstacles that she feels she needs to take care of. This episode goes for a strong message on how doing the right thing is what's most important. Kit embraces this well. Even when not as The Rocketeer, she always makes sure to put the needs of others before her own. As such, the fact that she goes out of her way to help others is pretty believable. Her main flaw comes from how she tends to stretch herself more than she can, but it fits. We see how well she does with the tasks at hand, such as hiding the mayor's seeds in the dirt so they won't be eaten, or when being The Rocketeer to help Malcolm guide the planes down. She even manages to get Valerie's homework back. Heck, even before then, she helped fix the pancake maker at the diner. The ending helps bring everything together. Kit goes to give Ambrose his lunch, but he's not there. As it turns out, he and everyone else planned a surprise for her when hearing what she did. She's then allowed to go to flight school. It's great.

2. First Class

Writers: Nicole Dubuc & Brian Hohlfeld

Director: Carin Anne Anderson

Date: February 7, 2020

Synopsis: "Kit meets Valerie in flight school."

You know how there's an episode that works because of a strong dynamic? This applies here. This episode involves Kit's first day in flight school. It's there where she formally meets Valerie, an ace pilot whose parents own the school. She manages to click the with Kit, and wants to hang with her. However, as Kit hangs with her, she spends less time with Tesh. The message of the episode is on how a true friend looks out for others. The dynamic that Kit and Valerie have sells this. Kit manages to get along well with Valerie like in the last episode, but we see more to them here. At one point, Valerie suggests Kit checks out her planes and awards, but that would interfere with her plans to hang out with Tesh. She does so anyway, and while not mad, he's a bit bummed out that she didn't come on time. As for Valerie, she's shown to be very ego driven and thinks she can do anything due to being a young pilot and her parents owning the flight school. However, this also means she's reckless, such as doing a flight simulation in a storm or going out to fly her mother's plane in an actual storm. Despite this, she's shown to clearly care for Kit even if her own ego gets in the way. The ending really brings this together. Valerie is saved by The Rocketeer, but is grounded by her mother and has to do extra homework for flight school. Kit decides to help her out, and Valerie sees her as a true friend. I do too.
