Crossover with this [link] requested by someone on /mlp/. I've experimented with the shading and coloring here and am not particularly happy... Maybe it's because of SAI, maybe I'm doing something wrong, I dunno. I'm gonna try Photoshop, I think.Related content

I personally am not a fan of MLP but this is is one of the only MLP fanarts I have ever seen that actually caught my attention. It's cute, very cute.
There was one person who gave you an awful critique and I have no idea what he was talking about. To me your art doesn't look anything like that other person, and it certainly isn't THAT bad.
For starters you have a great general idea of where and how to shade. The contrast is maybe a bit too high, especially on the bucket, but mistakes are how we learn. On the bucket I'd have given the metal a higher contrast in the shine and the bucket more dull because wood really isn't that shiny.
MLP freaks me out for this very reason but if you disagree and it's the style you're going for then you're doing great. I think the eyes are well done, but personally I think they're waaaay too big. I'm all for big-eyed cartoons but for some reason with MLP it freaks me out, so feel free to ignore that if it's what you're going for, like I said.
Now, it seems like she's supposed to be wet, but you didn't really capture that well. There are no water droplets on her anywhere so that's a missed opportunity, and he hair should be sticking to her face a lot more.
Personally I'd also have liked to see a background on this because it could have really added to the piece, but for what you've got here it's really great.
Low star scores because it's fanart and fanart tends to score lower on vision and originality, but as for technique and impact you did great.

Thanks. I don't take that other person's critique seriously, but it has some points worth thinking about.

I really think he was just being a jerk because he didn't really give you any advice at all on how to fix anything, he was just saying "well it's awful" and that's really not true at all.
But if I helped at all I'm glad C:

Right off the bat you lose points for being a pony picture when we already have about ninety seventy eighty thiry twenty billion million trillion frillion blooblionatrilliobillion of them already existing and about three times that many in the works. I think it's clear to everyone and their pet cats and their pet cat's pet squirrel that the style is derived from This asshole --> a.deviantart.net/avatars/j/o/j⦠" alt=" " title="johnjoseco" />. I'll take it for what it's worth. However, I can at least say that out of all of his imitators, at least you manage to do it without a fucking blush. Seriously, if I see one more pony picture with blush I'm going to step on a turtle!

As I said before, the style is quite obviously JohnJoseco inspired, but being inspired by something isn't bad. However, it is when it is. The eyes look dead and wooden, they have no shine or brightness to them, the shading on the bucket is choppy, and the colors are way too dark. That's not to say this picture has nothing good to it. Her coat looks good, the dark and light blue fur well together, but the shading on it looks disjointed like there's partial lights coming from behind and in front of her, yet at the same time they're not there. Oh well.

Overall: Whatever the overall score is.
Oh well, you have it your best shot, but your best shot was everyone else's worse and you lost the war. It sucks to be you, but that doesn't mean give up. Sometimes, a failure can open a door to a new start, and that's exactly what this is. Try again.

This is a wonderful piece of art! I love how her mane and tail is wet, and the way she is half lifting it off and her innocent expression. Although I do think her eyes could show a little more expression. Her eyes have matched the ones from the show nicely. Use of shadow and 3D is splendid. Her mouth and nose are very cute. I absolutely love it! Rainbows wings look very nice, too. It would've been nice to have water dripping off her or just a little drop sliding down her chest or back. I am not a very good critic, but I can say this is an excellent picture.

This piece of art is really nice. It gives the look that there was water in the bucket and she became wet.
Vision; I really like the point of view. Most of the time it is not a good idea to place the art in the middle but with this, it totally fits. The background is neutral so the Pony is a eyecatcher. I give you 5 stars for this because it really gives a 3D feeling and everything has volume.
Originality: as you already said, you did this for a request. I did not see anything like this and it is very original. 4.5 stars for this.
Technique: the shadings are all on the right spot and it is pretty dramatic. It gives the feeling the pony has volume. I only think that the lighter color is a little too dramatic on the skin. The hair looks wet, I don't know if this is what you want with this picture, but it fits pretty good. The eyes have very much depth. I only think that the shading on the wings is too messy and the cutie mark a little sketchy
Impact: I think that her eyes ar a little emotionless. 3.5 stars.
Keep up the work!!
So in one sentence: very nice but sometimes too sketchy.

Just a quick review, since I don't feel like writing a wrong one-
I really like the shading, but it could really be broken up a bit more. Too much shading can be a bad thing, too.
The main and tail is spot on, but it doesn't look wet at all. My only main complaint with this, is that it's a bit flat. Her face has no definition, and her wings look more glued on than folded. Her eyes are OK, but could be more accentuated by a snout/nose.
But besides all that, I really like the look of realism on it, and I think that adding fur would both make it easier to shade, and give a bit more definition to later drawings
Keep it up!
