I made this almost a year ago and only got around to posting it. Not very original, I know. I'm currently working with more traditional stuff and getting around to drawing portraits instead of the same forest thing. There is a lot I wish I could change but I don't care about it anymore. This is not a very good reflection of my current skills but I've gotten into a stage of reflective learning where I don't feel comfortable with posting more recent stuff. Mostly posting because people think that "pixel art isn't art" and "all you do is pixel art that's not real you still can't even draw" yeah okay.ΒI wouldn't bother faving unless you actually like it and not because I'm popular. Oh fuck. Also this was made in gimp because my school didn't allow any other painting programs.Β

I like how on relatively simple pieces like this with other artists ain't nobody say shit, a few comments at the most, but when it's a minor celebrity like Solar Sands everyone's typing massive compliments. Not complaining, everyone deserves some kind of approval, but just humorously noticing.

People are saying "pixel art isn't really art" just so they can keep saying you can't draw when you criticise other art. Now people are going to start saying "digital art isn't really art" to try to keep up their point

I guess the main reason why people say "Pixel art isnt art" is because people dont want to accept the fact that you can draw and know what youre talking about in your videos. Cuz lets be honest, the main argument on why you cant critique art is "You cant draw, therefor you cant critique" which is by itself not even true. I honestly believe that in some cases, pixel art can be a lot more difficult than regular digital art. Working on a small canvas where every pixel counts and you cant blur anything is p hard and mastering it takes a lot of time.

PLUS have you seen the stuff you make?? Shit looks like it took you years to get it lookin' so natural- with both colours and shading
I reckon to like, just have fun n do whatever u want? Even if all u drew was pixel-ly environments, it's clear that you know your shit because it always has this mood and sense of realism to it. I feel like the fact u can pull off the natural-ness with or without pixels should be evidence enough that you've put practice into what you do. Just because it's not the same as the rest of the art on this site (which is mostly cartoony, colourful shit) doesn't mean it's not art.
Probably hypocritical of me to refer to cartoony/colourful art as shit because it's kinda my thing too, but I'm thinking of like, flatcolour, black lineart, fuckin dogs or some shit with the most impossible colours fhsgfghs.. The fact that u bother to shade is honestly a fucking step-up then to that stuff imho
