Description
". . . Bred directly from the Zz'gashi dune runner, the zergling established the phylum Cursoa and brought the ability to burrow to the swarm. They are essentailly feral beasts and form the bulk of zerg ground forces.Possesing one pair of mandibles and two pairs of feelers, the head and crest have been altered from the dune-runner's sun-sheild and heat sink to a new role sheilding the body from enemy fire. The forelegs are used for running and digging and the middle set have been rejointed and made dense allowing them to snap down hard enough to crack armour plating. The powerful hind legs propel the zergling giving it its absurdist loping run. . .
. . . Due to the simplicity of these creatures they gestate very quickly and twins always emerge from the egg. They have the fourth lowest intelligence (just above the broodling) and seem to be exclusively male. They feed primarily on the creep, but are sometimes allowed to scavenge the battlefeild after all enemies have been killed. . . . "
-Templar Tassadar, Zerg Beastiary (s.53: Cursoa)
First of hopefully many illustrations in my "Offworld Diaries" series. Thought it'd be fun to try a fictional encyclopedia for a couple sketches, get a fresh approach to some already much-drawn material. The character is from Blizzard's Starcraft, mostly referenced from the in-game sprites. I was trying to capture the way they move and show a bit of character. I'm not a big fan of the Ghost direction on the Ling, too "bulldog" for my taste.
Comments and suggestions appreciated!

Cool pic, I was always a little fuzzy on how zerglings looked. Two questions, does anyone know how to pronounce Zz'gashi?, and what is SC:G?

Oh. Yeah I knew that Starcraft GHost got cancelled. I just didn't realize that SC:G stood for it. Too bad it got cancelled too.

did zergling have that frill thing on the back of th head? i thought it looked like a dog.
anyway it looks really cool
i never seen the ultralisk one or the lurker one.
but the zergling one looks like a short dog with a scythe taped to its back. i dont really like it
i think you should add more detail then it would look really good
i like the idea of making that encyclodpedia thingy so good luck

Agreed, the design for the zergling in SC:G is terrible. It's like they didn't even look at the previous game. Though I can say they did give a few units some design improvements, such as the Lurker and Mutalisk (in concept art anyways). Have you seen the in-game look of the Overlord and Ultralisk. Ugh, they are terrible. I'm actually happy they scraped it just because of how the Zerg ended up looking.

Yeah the new muta is pretty cool looking, but I never saw anything on the lurker or overlord, could you drop me a link? I actually liked the way the ulra moved in the preview, even if it looked more like a brontasaurus than a zerg.

Pics of the Lurker are real easy to find. [link] is the first image that came up on google. I don't have a link for the Overlord. I just happened to see it in one of the screenshots. I never did the Ultralisk move, but I wasn't fond of what I saw of the model and in a few screenshots.
