Description
Nearing to the end of these daily (more or less) submission with a character from the very past: Tusk Larnvlip. There's good chance Tusk was one of the first batch of 10 characters I ever created and played in any RPG. It was created with the MERP ruleset and played for two intense years surpassing the 10th level cap to 22nd level - the higher level MERP character we had at the time. He was a half-elf scout (rogue) with a wild disposition and a lust for adventure, loot and orc-slaying.
During his many adventures with various groups of comrades he entered more than once the vast underground caves complex under the Misty Mountains known as the Goblin Gate. During one of his lonely raids he was so daring to sneak and assassinate the Goblin King himself while he was seating on his skull-adorned throne. Tusk slit his throat so silently no one of the bystanders noticed, and took the fabled sword of the Goblin King with him. It was an Elf-Slaying scimitar (yes: a half-elf with an elf-slaying sword) made of mithril and with a ruby pommel. It became Tusk's signature weapon, along with his quick-shooting short bow. Later on, Tusk acquired some basic magical skills as a dabbler.
I can't precisely remembered how and when his adventures came to an end, I think the character retired after being badly wounded, or maybe it was killed during another daredevil solo adventure.
Still, Tusk is one of my favourite characters of all time.
This redesign was tough. The original character had that naive / gonzo touch, coming from an age in which role playing games were simpler and you character's appearance was defined more by the magic items he looted than how you imagined him at first. Tusk had lived so many adventures that his appearance stratified lots of times: in the original illustration are yet visible the scimitar, spell-weaving hand, and werewolf-cloak - another loot from other adventures. For the redesign I wanted to keep this odd appearance and outfit, trying to amalgamate the various discordant elements into a single illustration. So I gave Tusk a brand new elf-slaying scimitar, drawing the blade an appearance that possibly suggests its orcish made; then I added the cloack, short bow (I wasn't able at all to draw a bow at the time!) and finally a face that possibly makes him look more half-elven than a Popeye impersonator.
