Another addition to the fantasy project, this one is focused on the 'characters' or roles that are often seen in this genre of fiction. Rather than portray the alien civilisation of another culture, these designs are rooted in the culture of humans (mainly Medieval) and reflect our own 'roles'. The Villagers are the folk of the farms, they seek bliss and growth and thus are cheery but hardy people. This idea is shown by their hearty, good natured expressions and a more naturalistic, light toned colour palate. Merchants (at least these ones) are suave and cunning, they seek to gain fortune on the misfortunes of others. There colours are darker and greasy, inspired by animals such as ravens and rats, which tend to be seen as tricksy and menacing. Protectors of the commoners, Guards are the everyday soldiers who fight to protect their lands. Their armour is mainly inspired by later 14-early 15th century armours and are used for both protection and identification. These soldiers have a simpler design to go with the idea that they are the regular troops, the backbone of this kingdom's military.
