This is stunning... you have an amzing eye for detail! I love how you shaded him, and how you made his head appear soft and fuzzy. It's a beautiful tribute!!

i was wondering what reference did you use for this picture? just asking as [link] is similar so she may have referenced it off this picture (unless the ref photo is public )

I used a picture from a book written about this horse, who was a swedish trotter... so, yes, itΒ΄s a public photo. But this girl lives in Poland, could she know of him? Then again, he was famous. But if she did use my drawing as a reference, thatΒ΄s OK since she didnΒ΄t steal the actual drawing itself. Thanks for telling me!

I love pastel blocks too - been a while since I've used them though! What I like about this image is the attention to detail in the eyes, the bit and bridle... also the choice of medium for the subject is perfect, the drawing seems soft and so the horse seems soft too... beautiful directional lighting and gesture.
You have a great gallery, keep up the work!
Smoochi!

26? Very cool. And old beauty, they are always something about older horses being as gorgeous and radiant as a young colt or filly. A stunning and everlasting piece.

Gorgeous portrait, you've really captured the gloss of his coat!
These pastel blocks intrigue me.. what are they exactly? I've used oil pastels to draw with before.. are they similar? And is it the pastels or the velour paper that gives it the 'smooth' look?

Thank you so much!
Pastel blocks are different from oil pastels, theyΒ΄re like chalks, very dry and dusty...I canΒ΄t really explain... HereΒ΄s a link that maybe explains a bit better, it has pics too... [link] Do you know of soft pastels? TheyΒ΄re similar, but the blocks are less soft, and shaped as... well, blocks.
I think itΒ΄s a combination of both actually, since both the paper and the pastels are very smooth. I usually prefer soft pastels, but I think them too soft for this type of paper.

Ohhh! I've seen those before! Thanks for the link, and clearing that up. Next time I'm picking up supplies for class, I'll look at getting a set - I love the effect!
