A few days in...
AJ and Spike knocked on the door to Ember’s cave. She answered, then invited them in. In the living room, they found Therma (AKA Thorax the Pregnant Dragoness) sitting on a couch, reading a book. Her belly had grown to the approximate size of a basket.
“Thora — I mean, Therma?” AJ said.
“Yep, that’s me.” Therma replied, sounding unamused. “Whaddya want?”
“We just wanted to say thank you, again, for doin’ this for us. This really means the world to us.”
“Don’t sweat it,” she said, “I’m happy to help.”
“So, uh… How’re ya doin’?”
“I’ve got morning sickness, and I’m pretty uncomfortable on this rock couch with this gut, but other than that, I’m doing peachy.”
“Well, that’s good to hear. I don’t suppose we could, y’know…” AJ gestured towards Therma’s belly.
Therma sighed, closing the book and getting up.
Spike got out a stool and stood on it, then touched his hand to Therma’s belly. It felt tough, yet stretchy. He moved his hand, finding a spot where he could feel the liquids inside churning.
“Woah…” he said, in awe.
He stepped aside and let AJ feel it. She, too, was awestruck.
Then she started feeling depressed. “Y’know, I always thought that, if I had a child, that I’d be the one, y’know, having the baby. But still, I'm glad we're where we are. Again, thank you for doin' this, Thorax.”
Therma smiled.
AJ and Spike asked her if she needed anything, then set off to get her some fireproof blankets.
Sitting there alone, and pondering over what AJ said, Therma realized that she was really lucky. She would probably be the only guy in history to be able to experience the miracle of childbirth first hoof. And she was giving one of her friends one of the best gifts possible.
She rubbed her stomach, then jumped when she felt it move. She blushed. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing after all…
