WOw, me likings my new Wacom Tablet. What a difference that little thing makes to the quality of work u can produce! Well, obviously this character was painted entirely in photoshop, using the simple dodge and burn tools. I wanted the character to be adorned with leather to add an aged dimension to the work. I loved the way the Bow turned out. I'm not very good with forshortening, (the way an object distorts as it comes closer or farther away from the picture plane) so the bows final shape really pleased me. I may go back and add some celtic-like designs to the bow just for some added detail. Anyways, enjoy and please comment!!Related content

very impressive!! I was just wondering would it be okay if i could use this image as concept art please? its from a game design document im doing for uni, the theme is based on medieval times and this art piece would come in really handy in describing the looks we want are going for. i know you said celtic but this image is really cool and id love to add it to my document.

Great work!!!! But I think celtic details are not the best for it.
The archer has a composite bow, thipical turkish or geberally oriental kind of bow. Moreover the armor is light, it seems a leather one. So it's more like a Trabzon Archer.

Outstanding work. I really like his armor, his mask especially. I think its very fitting and each piece contributes well to the overall look.

By the way, i just realized that this is a medieval long bow. Normally with these bows the twine is wound extremely tight around the tips of the wood bow. The tension would be immense, but the relative projection of the arrow from a minute pull of the twine would result in a long range shot.
You are still correct about the length of the arrow, but i think it is still reasonably coherent

but the arrow is too short, it might tense the string a bit, but it won't fly as far as a long arrow, and if you use a short arrow like this and tense the string to it's maximum, you won't b able to aim, becoz the arrow won't reach de bow center, but the painting is real good.

Yea your absolutely right about the length of the arrow, i guess i wasn't concentrating on the details as much. This is considered my first digital sketch you see, so bare with me if i make a few mistakes.

Dude you're absolutely right!! crap man i never thought about that. Goes to show i didn't use enough reference images or information. I'll probably create another painting real soon, but this time I'll pay a little more attention to the little things.
By the way, I don't know who you are because I have never met you, obviously. My guess is that you don't know who I am either, so please refrain from using demeaning remarks in a community where people are trying to better each other.
I suggest you look up "fundamental Attribution Errors in psychology" to better acquaint yourself with this concept.

Naturally, a recurve bow as you have thought me. It was quite hard actually, getting the shape right as it moves into the background. The arrows were also very time consuming to paint!

Nice piece I really like the cloathing design.
My only critique is that maybe you don't need to soften the texture all over, I think you need to sharpness combine with softness so its more believable. I think now that you have your tablet you will get even better painting digitally.
I really like when artist work the details in the costums of the characters, some people overlook it and its nice as a viewer to let your eye wonder on the work rather than just like at it fast and dismiss it.
