People act like furries are something new, like the result of some sort of nuclear accident or something. When in fact the concept goes back for centuries. Think about when the pyramids were being built.

That's not furries, the furry subculture is only few decades old (established as late as in 1990s) and is, most importantly, a society and lifestyle. You actually mean anthropomorphisation which is as old as history, not the very young furry subculture. Thing is, none of those movies are furry movies - they weren't made by the subculture, NOR do they feature characters/content owned by furries.

I think one reason people are on about Zootopia is because it's just Mammals. Cat's Don't Dance, Kung Fu Panda, and Robin Hood have antro animals of all species, not just Mammals.

if you knew a bit more about furries you'd know they're far from being just about anthro mammals... it's all vertebrates and even invertebrates, and in fact you also need to add made-up/fantasy creatures, machines, plants, aliens, ghosts/spirits, shapeshifters and all sorts of mixes, also add the ferals too - because all of these are what a fursona or a furry OC can be, they have no limits in there.
But most of all, furry subculture is not the first nor, by no means, the only cultural phenomenon having some interest in anthro animals.
so I dont' think that's the case. I believe the mammals having a greater chance of evolving to the human-like intelligence/mind makes sense, humans are better evolved mammals after all (in terms of the brain), mammals are closer related to humans than any other so one can see some logic here.
