Description Arthur and Stephen ‘’Steve’’ Claus from the 2011 Sony/Aardman CGI movie ‘’Arthur Christmas’’.

I won’t be talking much about the art, but more about the characters featured on here.

Now, Steve probably has mixed feelings from the public. The negative side would mostly call him a villain (or antagonist)… But, they are so prejudicially wrong!

Steve is sort of like a less rude Tony Stark: He is a futurist, who is also a leader type. His actions in the movie are mostly to make sure the secret of Santa doesn’t become unmythed and ruin Christmas for everyone.

Even though dropping one gift off would’ve saved Arthur and grand-Santa (who also didn’t support Arthur’s goals) the trouble.

Speaking of them, he also (even if he doesn’t snow it.. show it much) doesn’t want them to be badly hurt or mortally injured.

Plus, what is sooooooo evil about wanting to be Santa? He is the first-born so it would make it a rightful duty for him.

He also, wants his Father (Santa Malcom)’s approval: which why he acts uptight and full-ish when Santa sort of says ‘’his operation had an accident’’
.
Steve is just really trying to help- He sort of messes up along the way because he is human,
As his voice actor ‘’Hugh Laurie’’ said in an interview with BlackTreeTV,

-‘’He is a good guy, he means well. He means it in a.. He’s so clumsy in his way. He’s very sort of driven and very focused uh he’s uh all about powering ahead and not really paying attention to the people who get left behind. But in a way, he’s trying to do the right thing: he is trying to do it as well as it can be done. He wants it all to work, he’s a good guy’’.

I couldn’t have said it better myself Hugh.

Back to the story: After trying to have closure with his father, he decides (since he is on his SWAY-1) to help deliver the gift, or a new one.

Before I continue, I just want to address Sony and/or Aardman, since at times they push Steve a little too far. Come on, if you want me to hate him, why did you make me care about him in the first place? He is kind of like Woody from Toy Story, who the audiences (according to John Lassiter) want to make the right choice, and not the wrong one.

Well, after seeing the look on Gwen’s face (I forgot to mention that there is NO WAY that Steve has something personal against a child he doesn’t know, or wants to make kids suffer due to any misgivings) from her present, he realizes what being Santa is really about and decides that Arthur is the worthy one. ‘’I’ll be the candle’’ he says,

In fact, Steve is actually the (or a) hero here. If he didn’t give up his birthright, he’d be unhappy, the family could’ve been unhappy, and if employees are unhappy, they don’t care for their jobs and customer joy might slip down from positive-mixed.

To quote Astrid from the ‘’Dragons’’ TV show, ‘’There was no better Viking today than you Hiccup’’. Although his name is Steve and he is a claus.

Now for Arthur!
2011 was basically James McAvoy’s breakout year! His voiced was also loved as Gnomeo iiiiiiiin... well, ‘’Gnomeo’’ and Juliet: While in live action, almost everyone on Earth adored his face as young Professor-X in ‘’X-Men: First Class’’.
-Speaking of that, am I the only person who has noticed the G&J scene where Gnomeo and Shakespeare’s statue (Patrick Stewart are having a conversation as a talk between both Professor Xs?

Back to Arthur: He is my favorite character!
He is nice, charming, caring, I see most of myself in him (I am a nice and emotional person who cares for everyone and can get upset), and he is better and nicer than Pixar’s WALL-E (Who is not annoying… But is annoying because he is PIXAAAAAAR! Who, seem to always put a villain in every single film they make! Except Finding Nemo, but they will somehow loophole around me on that)

Arthur is also like a British human verson of everyone’s favorite Gungan (well, at least mine)

He already explained most about Arthur. For those who haven’t seen the movie… Stop asking me questions and go see it yourself! You’ll enjoy it like I did (although Steve being made out to look like a villain is a stain on the film like ‘’Revenge of the Sith’’ becomes a stain in the Star Wars films)

Okay to sum up- Both characters are good, movie is good, it is a rare animated film in the modern age to have no villains, the art is… OH THE ART!

Well, they are to separate arts (characters and background)

I like how I made the characters: But Steve’s military outfit is one of the most complicated things I have ever drawn!

And yes, I know I didn’t give them pink noses!
