Description Based on a fic I wrote. we'll assume this is the next day with them writing like a list of stuff to draw or w/e. Sonny belongs to ! Sonny is like tween-12 here in a baggy sweater.

FemLeo I'm still tweaking design wise at this point. For sure I wanted a scar across her mouth/snout, along with her enjoying really dorky charms on her stuff. She and Mikey bond over goofy ass charms. They swap pins & charms endlessly. Leo takes any bells off of hers preemptively for obvious reasons.

Also gives me an excuse to draw random charms on her every time, which is more appeal than it should be, ;V This doesn't even include my idea Mikey got Leo into painting her nails.

I also have a companion piece to this one in the works. Sonny and Mikey chillin'. Cause whilst I enjoy Sonny being briefly studious, she is also a little shit when she wants to be.

---

The calligraphy brush felt like a natural extension of her arm now. Leo found a steady comfort in moving the ink across the page, watching as it took form in the way she wished. Steady careful characters forming.  Years of practiced yielded beautiful ink work. Work Leo felt her father would be proud of.

When she was doing calligraphy, she found just as much comfort in illustrating scenes in ink. Her careful deft strokes usually built a landscape with very little struggle.

She was working carefully on a mountain when soft tentative knocks came at her door. Only one person really did that, Sonny. Leo glanced up from her work, sparing the clock over her wall a glance. It was fairly late now. Late enough everyone else was asleep.

“Come in.” With only minor hesitation the door opened, the uncertain twelve year old peeking in. That uncertainty blossomed into surprise at the sight before her.

Leo had a cheap wooden easel set up against the back wall of her bedroom. Her two newer ink-sets were placed on the easel’s ledge, as was a glass of water.  Her brushes were carefully organized set on a collapsible table nearby.

“I- am I bothering you?” Sonny questioned.

“No.” Leo set her brush down carefully, turning to face the teenager. “Are you okay-? Usually you’re asleep by now, Sonny.”

“I was just- I can’t sleep.” The girl nervously toyed with the hem of her nightgown. Clawed fingers plucked at the fabric as she tried to explain herself.

Leo gave a thoughtful sound at that, “Bad dreams?”

“No- I, I just can’t.”  Sonny murmured, clearly she didn’t want to talk about it. Leo wasn’t going to push. The turtle nodded, debating with herself for a moment before an idea settled over her. Normally she’d try to help Sonny settle back down or make the girl a snack. It was always a 50/50 shot on whether it would work.

“How about you work with me here?”

“With your painting?” The chimera tilted her head, eying the paper scroll tapped to the easel. Clearly she hadn’t expected to be invited to stay. Leonardo liked her privacy, but- she also valued Sonny’s comfort.

“Yes. I- wouldn’t call them paintings, but I guess it fits. I’m doing calligraphy technically.” Leo moved to her wardrobe to root around for her older supplies. With little trouble she found the set her father had given her. The pad of paper with a Bunchin was well used but had yet to break apart. With it was her brush and inkstone. The blackened stone was her go-to when she ran out of the more modern equivalents. Leo cleaned off her collapsible table, setting the equipment up for the tween.

“It’s something my father taught me when I was a bit younger than you.” She started, losing her train of thought as she set up a chair in front of the table. “A way to bring more beauty into the world when you feel like you have nothing to give. A way to focus on something else for just a moment.”

The chimera nodded slowly, bright eyes focusing on the paper. She seemed to be turning the words over in her mind. “Is it hard?” She reached out to brush her clawed fingers across the brush curiously.

“It can be. I know my first attempts were ugly.” Leo offered with a laugh, her expression softening somewhat. “Here, sit down and I’ll show you.”

Sonseeahray settled on the small stool, openly interested now. “But- you can make that?” She pointed at the paper taped to the easel. The landscape of ink looked alive, vibrant even with the one color used. Leonardo had enough control over her brush now to speckle the landscape with life.

“It takes a lot of practice to get there. Along with breaking a few rules after you learn them.”

The chimera laughed, the sound was music to the turtle’s ‘ears’. It was rare to see Sonny brighten up like this. Her smile was a little cheeky now, revealing her fangs. “I thought you always followed rules?”

“A good leader knows when to break a few rules, kiddo.” She offered back.

The next hour was spent with Leonardo slowly guiding Sonseeahray through the calligraphy lesson. She helped the girl take the correct stance for using the brush and getting the right strokes. The girl struggled on the Japanese character for mountain. Unsurprisingly her brush strokes were wild and sloppy.

“Ugh.” The chimera wilted slightly staring down at the page. Her reject pages were set aside out of her way to continue with her impromptu lesson. “I’ll never get this.”

“You will. You just need to be patient.” Leo gently placed a hand against Sonny’s shoulder.  “You’re more talented than you give yourself credit for.”

“These are so ugly…” Sonny gestured in frustration at the discarded mistakes from earlier. Frustration bubbling over as she glowered at the pages. “I don’t see how you- I don’t see talent.”

“They’re your first steps.” Leonardo corrected softly, “Mine were much worse. I didn’t have enough fingers to hold the brush for one.” She wiggled her three fingers at the girl eliciting a brief giggle from the twelve year old. “You just have to keep practicing until you feel like the brush is a part of you.”

“Like ninjutsu? When we do katas?”

Leonardo’s lips quirked upwards at that, “Yes. Very much like that. It takes discipline. I’m fairly sure you have that in spades, missy.”

Sonny is a mischief maker through and through. I can only see her being good studious child for so long, pfft.

Thank you! It's been really fun writing and drawing your gal. Definitely expect more down the pipe Sonny wise!
