Nice one. I got my first lightning strikes a few days ago. They didn't turn out this good, though.

Keep trying, this wasn't my first attempt - it took many tries to get it right

This is fabulous! I have such a hard time catching lighting on film. And, I'm trying to take a photo of lightning for a friend of mine. It just requires such precise timing. Anyway, this is an amazing portrait! Great job~!

Thank you! I will say that 90% is guess work. I had my settings correct, but pointing it in the right direction and hoping for a strike is most of the job.

I can only imagine. It must have taken a lot of time.

how do u do that?
lightning appears less than a millisecond so by the time u see it its gone...do u repetitively take a pic till u get it, (or is this how u do it? film it then slow the framerate)

I set my shutter speed to 30 seconds, f/5.6 and 100 ISO. Then I point up so that there's very little land, and fire away. The biggest trick is guessing where the next strike will be. That's where luck comes in

Wow! This is great. Love how you captured where it strikes the land. I've never managed to do that
