My first barred owl (Strix varia) sighting outside of the winter months. It was resting out in the open among a few trees. This image was captured within a brief 10 second window before the owl returned to its deep slumber. They are one of my favourite owl species because they always seem so calm and relaxed all the time, sometimes a bit too relaxed even when small birds start squawking angrily at them. It's great to see them enjoying the slightly warmer weather, although the recent weeks have had relatively heavy rain showers.ΒRelated content

Owls tend to look wise. Except burrowing owls, they look silly all the timeΒ

Indeed. Birding in Florida must have been fun, I've heard many stories about the burrowing owls that live there.
