Description ok, made this in under 48 hours for the RPGDX 48 hour RPG making jam

the theme was 'LOFI' which I interpreted in the gameplay, I tried to include the bare minimum for an RPG and this is what came out of it.

I originally wanted to make a more traditional rpg but once I got this in my head it was too fun not to do, though I dont really think its too fun to play, but maybe some people will like it, I dont know

oh, and before anyone asks the 3D in this flash is powered by papervision.

Epic, the story is hilarious. it was a great idea to dumb it down to the bare bones of an RPG. now all you need is cheesy music that starts playing at every checkpoint haha

Maybe the best RPG, ever...

Now, jokes aside, the story is a bit "Kliche" (smells like JRPG's to me), but the idea of random battles at which you have absolutely no effect, straightforward objective (if you can call it that way), takes the essence out of quite a number of "normal" games.

This is fantastic. Beautiful. I love it.

I'll take 10 sequels, 5 spin offs, and one full motion movie, please.

If I may make a suggestion, if you make another one like this, could you consider/is it possible to do something like Mad Libs for the story? Before the game starts, enter in the verbs, nouns, and such, and then have it be part of the story. I have no idea if this is feasable, but it would be neat, in my opinion.

SophieHoulden In reply to Jor25 [2009-03-07 02:52:44 +0000 UTC]

it would be feasable but I'm not sure what it accomplishes that just mad libs alone doesent, theres plenty of online scripts that do that anyway. its got me thinking though

It is definitely a very creative idea and the game looks very cool. I like the interesting art style and the gameplay mechanics. However, here is some constructive criticism:

1. Better instructions on how to play the game is necessary. I didn't realize for a long time that you have to sprint between levels while your HP goes down (you die if you run out of HP) and when you level up, you get a higher HP. This is not explained well and it was very confusing at first.

2. The story is fairly cliche and the writing itself leaves a little to be desired (the writing is a little callow).

However, good job with the game idea and the implementation in such a short time.

ya, my communication skills arent great, I should try reading my stuff from the perspective of someone who is new to it more. as for my writing I'm definately not very practiced, so thats why its all a little raw. thanks for the crit

Wow! First rpg I beat in a long time. A bit linear though. *looks at the name* oooh.

Really awesome. I was waiting for Love Interest... oops I mean Tseret to die. You could have branched the storyline ONCE there and allowed me to go off in search of hacks and xploitz to bring her back to life because omg she can't be dead! But really, well paced, just enough grinding, couldn't ask for more.

I also loved the shampoo dungeon. Shampoo seriously needs to be the fourth element more often.

An interesting... I guess you'd call this a satire game. You're exposing and playing off of just how dull most RPGs are, gameplaywise.

Of course, time was the point of an RPG was the epic storyline and character development -- the short term gameplay usually wasn't too interesting, but the cool stuff happened over the long term, as the story advanced and the characters got ever stronger.

These days, most game genres are starting to pick up RPG elements -- leveling up characters and so forth, so I'm starting to wonder if we'll see the RPG 'die out' or get amalgamated into other genres.
