Description
Ok silly title but its a silly sign...and it rather fits. This poor guy got drug all the way across the arena before the pickup men got him loose. Not too often you see a hang up in broncs, but they're pretty scary when they happen.© Liz Stabbert Photography 2007

I won't say my opinion on rodeo, but did you know that 'Uff da!' is a Norwegian expression? It's usually translated as "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that".

I thought it was something along those lines, kinda similar to "yikes!" or "Oy!"...which is why I thought it a fitting name for the photo. " Oh, I'm sorry to hear that" is probably pretty fitting of your opinion of rodeo though
As someone who was there and always concerned about the welfare of horses (and animals in general), I can tell you with 100% certainty that the bronc was fine. She was a little startled after the rider came off like that, but once he was freed she went back to the herd and buried her nose in a pile of waiting alfalfa. The end

Wow, I guess it was that guys unlucky day, but I love the horse's expression! First thing that came to mind when I saw this image was about how flexible that mare is!

Dear sorrelstang,
I am taking my presentation; Rodeo, A dying Sport or Animal Cruelty, to the 4-H Nationals which is being held in Louisville, Kentucky, this November. My presentation supports Rodeos and goes through many of the myths that anti-rodeo groups put out; myths that deal with flank straps, spurs, steroids, cattle prods, care, etc.
I was wondering if I could use this image, Helix Rodeos- Uffda on my presentation board. This image would be used for my Thrills and Spills section which states; "Yes. There is no doubt that Rodeo is dangerous to both horse and rider, as shown in this Thrills and Spills photo, where a bareback bronc rider has gotten hung up in his rigging. BUT, it is no more dangerous than showing your own steer, or jumping your own horse."
I am asking permission to use this photo because I am planning on sending this presentation to several Rodeo groups to let them know what I am doing and to ask for help of funding my trip, as the State will not send us a dime. This presentation will be sent to groups such as; The Pendleton Round Up, Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and the Professional Bull Riders.
If you're interested in the content of my presentation, I can send you a word copy.
Sincerely,
Ruffian-Graphics

Hi Ruffian! Sorry about not getting back to you, I'm rarely on DA nowadays. That would be just fine with me Although just as a note, I would hardly call rodeo a dying sport. Thanks largely to the PBR, its growing in popularity! This article from 2006 actually calls it the fastest growing sport in America [link] Not too shabby eh?
BUT you're in support of rodeo so I'm not complaining
Also, as a note on this pic, both horse and rider were just fine. The rider actually loved the pic and bought a copy! lol

Lol. I don't really think it's a dying sport either, but I thought it was catchy and some people really don't know about it. One girl moved up from a big city in Cali and I asked her if she'd gone to any rodeo's or PBR events and she looked at me and asked, "What's Rodeo?"
Thank you so much for letting me use your photo! I really like all of your rodeo photographs. Do you compete by any chance?

love how the horse is like "wtf? whats happend? his not off?!"
l know alot of people hate the sport, and l'm completly ignorent so l'll hold my tounge, but can you link me somewhere where they tell you on how they make the horses buck?
...thankfully the guy or horse wern't hurt
l got draged around by a wild cassawary when l was 10 (good ol' Australia). it was tragic, l went to jump the fence and it scooped me awkward on its back and l held on for dear life as it bucked. broke 3 bones, that fucker did.

OMG! Ok I had to google what they were, and now that I know I'll be adding being drug around by a wild cassowary to my list of fears! yikes!!
I'll be updating this deviation [link] with more information on teaching bucking stock to buck soon (hopefully) so check back

Hodang that sucks butt to watch those men get dragged around like ragdolls, whether by bulls or broncs. This is a great shot, your camera picks up some nice detail

Gosh I hate it when that happens, I've seen it a couple times with bulls, that's a little scarier to watch than when it happens with the broncs (true they're a few hundred pounds bigger) . He was ok right, bein' drug around the arena probably didn't feel to hot.
PS: got to love the horses face

She (he?) was fine, didn't skip a beat going across the arena. Probably a little startled though, like I said in the description, usually when they get bucked off they don't stay hooked on!
