An aristocratic and proud individual, Jetfire was a strong believer in the nobility of flight-capable Cybertronians, to the point where he often believed himself superior to non-fliers, or even slower fliers such as Helicopter-formers or flight capable beast-formers.

A high flying (both literally and figuratively) graduate from the Vosian Academy of Aerial Arts, Jefire rapidly rose through Vosian society to become the City's High Chancellor. As a leader he was known to be rather dismissive or condescending towards those he believed to be beneath him. However it was generally believed he had the best interest of the city at heart, for example, he strongly resisted the pressure from the ruling Cybertronian senate to impose the caste system in the city.

This changed when Optimus Prime took control over the senate. At the behest of the cities former Senatorial Representative Starscream, the Vosian council voted to declare the city independent of the Primacy and an ally of the Decepticon rebellion and under Jetfires leadership the city began to prepare itself for war. However by many Vosians, including Jetfire himself, this vote was seen as Starscream's attempt to set himself up as the cities next chancellor (as Starscream was known to have strong links with the leaders of the Decepticon movement even before the war).

Jetfire's tendency to avoid fighting himself and commanding his forces from a distance, while Slipstream, Starscream and other Vosian Lords directly engaged in battle and lead their units on the battle field, was seen as dishonorable by many Vosians (as their culture had an emphasis on chivalry and combat prowess). This combined with a number of poorly thought out commands, leading to multiple casualties, and the loss of Warriors Gate (a sub-polity of Vos) to Autobot forces rapidly decreased Jetfire's standing within Vos, and soon lead to a popular movement within the civilian population to replace Jetfire by one of the other Lords (particularly Starscream).

Realizing he would soon be forced out of the council Jetfire made a deal with the Autobot's to maintain some of his power. He provided the Autobots with a 'backdoor' through the cities defense's, including scrambling the programming of the cities array of Ion Cannons so that they would not fire on Autobot spark signatures, allowing them to invade the city. In return Jetfire would be given a high ranking position within the Autobots, and after the war he would be guaranteed leadership of Vos and some of it's neighboring polities answering only to Optimus Prime himself.
