Cicadas wirred gently in the wind blown trees as the sun crept closer and closer toward the horizons edge. The temperature was warm and balmy, even at sunset, and most of the herd were already dozing or having quiet conversations. Jensen looked out over them with his signature dour expression and sighed heavily.

He’d made up his mind.

With one last glance in their direction, he turned and quietly began trotting into the woods. It was cooler and damper here, his hooves barely making any sound in the thick moss. And yet he was being followed. Jensen stopped and looked over his shoulder to see a familiar spotted face scowling at him.

”And where are you off to at this time of day?” Denna asked in a clipped tone.

Things had been...tense...between them, ever since she had given birth to Percy’s foal. Jensen rolled his eyes at her and continued to walk into the forest.

”Not like it’s any of your business where I go or when.” he grumbled as response.

To his surprise, Denna came charging after him, her eyes alight with a raging fire as she shoved in front, forcing him to acknowledge her.

”You listen to me good now, Jensen. You never once laid claim to me, so you don’t get to pout and stomp your hooves when I find a stallion who will.” she shouted, glaring furiously.

Jensen took a step back, intimidated despite himself. He hadn’t expected her to be so...forward.

He tried to push past her and said bitterly, ”Not any of my business who you decide to be friendly with. I’m sure my brother treats you just fine.”
Denna snorted loudly and snaked her head out and around, grabbing Jensen viciously on the shoulder with her teeth and giving him a good bite. Jensen shouted in surprise and half-reared to get away from her, shooting her his own glare now.

”Don’t you DARE try to condemn me for my choices when you were too much of a COWARD to do anything about your own feelings!” she cried loudly, her voice hoarse with emotion.

Jensen took a deep inhale and had to look away from her sapphire blue eyes. ”Well...I won’t be bothering you anymore with my cowardice or feelings. I’m leaving. Now, please move.” he said softly.

Denna’s heart plummeted into her stomach and her jaw dropped. ”You’re…you’re leaving?” she whispered, the words sounding alien to her ears.

”Yeah. I am.” he replied with a sniff, trying again to shove past her with his shoulder.

Denna let him by, too stunned to stop him this time. She turned her head as he quietly continued on his own.

”How...how dare you?” she hissed.

He didn’t stop walking.

”You’re abandoning us? Your family?”

His hooves barely made a sound and his ears didn’t even twitch as the light drained color from the sky.

Denna drew herself up and squared her shoulders even as she felt the ground falling away beneath her. ”Don’t you EVER show your face around here again, Jensen!” she shouted at his back. ”I’ll chase you away myself, you bastard!”

His solid form had already faded away into the shadows of the trees and the darkening sky. In a few more moments, he was gone entirely. Denna’s lip quivered and she bit it, hard, to make it stop.

”Good riddance.” she whispered as she turned on a heel and ran back home.
