Description

Breigo let out another high pitched scream as he raced around his circular prison. His hooves tore up huge chunks of grass and dirt, sending them flying in his wake. With a hard skid, he came to a stop, chest heaving from his exertion. His eyes were wild as he tossed his head back and forth, trying to find any weakness in the fence. With a heavy sigh, he let his head drop as he caught his breath, trying to calm his racing thoughts.

At least Aloine got away. he thought to himself, relief flooding his body.

Calmer now, he glanced around, sniffing at the wooden fence. As far as he could tell, it was high and solid, making escape nearly impossible. He sighed heavily, looking up at the cloudy sky. He wasn’t entirely sure how many days he’d been left in this tiny space. The humans provided him with food and water but otherwise left him alone...for now. Occasionally when the wind changed he thought he could smell other horses near by, but he hadn’t seen any yet. If they were around, maybe they’d be willing to help him.

”Hello?” he called out experimentally, ears perked forward.

He waited a few seconds, but didn’t hear an answer. Trotting in a restless circle, he started trying to put together a plan. He had to get back to his herd. His family. They were vulnerable without, despite the geldings. And his foals...he missed them desperately. With a sour sneer, he hoped he got out of here in time to watch them grow up.

Breigo walked over to the trough full of cool, clear water and drank deeply. Originally he had refused both food and drink, but he needed to keep his strength up if he ever hoped to be free again. So he drank and he ate and he rested and he waited. An opportunity would present itself. He just had to have patience.
