Description

Firefoot opened his mouth in a huge, exaggerated yawn before flopping back onto his side in the warm grass. He sniffled miserably, bored out of his mind from the inactivity. Ever since his injury, both Breigo and Desvelado had forbid him from his usual routine until he was healed. But that had been like...two days ago! And he was so bored.

”Oh dear oh dear, now where am I?”

Firefoot’s head lifted up at the sound of an unfamiliar voice. His eyes caught movement as the bushes in front of him rustled. He hastily got to his feet, ready to run or fight if necessary, when a small vixen popped her head out and looked up at him imploringly.

”Oh, good sir! Have you seen a den around here by chance?” she asked, clearly upset.

Firefoot blinked down at her. He’d never had a conversation with a fox before. ”Erm...well, no. Not really.” he replied, to the vixen’s increased distress. ”But, uh, I could help you find it?” he offered. Anything would be more interesting than nothing.

The vixen perked up and burst out of the brush. ”Oh thank you thank you thank you!” she squealed happily. ”I just know it has to be around here somewhere! With a flash of her tail, she was zipping off in another direction, happily prattling on about her day.

Firefoot trotted to keep up, enjoying the strange company. The vixen led him on a merry chase through the woods, stopping every now and then to look down a den or peek around a tree. Finally, Firefoot’s ears picked up the sounds of playing kits. As they passed through a clearing, they saw three fox kits tumbling through the grass, being watched closely by a rather large male fox. The vixen zoomed toward them, nearly tackling her mate in excitement.

”Did you forget where we moved again?” the male asked with a sigh as the female nodded enthusiastically. The fox looked up at Firefoot and gave him a nod. ”Thanks for escorting my mate back home, horse.”

”It was my pleasure!” Firefoot assured him, standing as still as possible as the three kits raced around his legs.

At a trill from their father, the kits scurried back to the den with happy chirps. Firefoot smiled as he left the family behind, eager to return to his own herd.

Other notes: It was originally supposed to be Astarael helping the fox, but he's off being a bachelor now so I switched him out for my good gelding boy.
