A role play between me and warpugs featuring our characters Blue and Shep for the group .

Blue heaved another sigh as she lay on the front porch, dangling her front paws over the edge and keeping her eyes closed agains the bright sunlight. It had been about week since Shep's mother had been injured and he'd yelled at her. Blue hadn't heard from the other farm dog since. The more time she was left alone gave her mind more time to think and worry itself to pieces.

Maybe the whole thing really was her fault.

Her Lady walked by with a smelly cup of liquid and patted her on the head, giving her a worried look that Blue pretended not to see. Her People had been having hushed conversations lately about her, she was sure, and her sudden depression. Blue couldn't stand to see them worried and suddenly threw herself off the porch and trotted away with her head hanging low.

She glanced at the guinea pigs as she passed and they ran to the edge of the fence squealing and squeaking. Blue tried to wag her tail but found her heart wasn't in it and moved on. She came to the bison field and slipped under the lowest point, trotting over to a large female lying down while chewing her cud. Blue flopped down on her side next the massive animal and heaved another sigh.

Shep had left his farm, and Riley on it, when he got the idea from her advice to go and simply apologize to his friend for being so harsh with her the day his mother was injured. He raced through the snow-covered fields, the woods, and over the creek that separated their farms.

He reached Blue's farm and slowed his pace a bit, sniffing around to find her trail which led him to the pen full of relaxing bison. He tilted his head to the side, not spotting Blue for a moment but finally seeing her sprawled out beside one of the large beasts. He knew better than to enter the pen of farm animals he wasn't familiar with so he barked a call to Blue, hoping she wasn't so mad at him that she would ignore him.

Blue had been dozing off when the bison she rested against stirred and let our a low bellow. Blue stretched deeply before blinking bleary eyes and looking around for the source of the big animal's warning. Spotting Shep she immediately tried to duck down, hoping he wouldn't see her, and immediately knew it was foolish. Slowly she rose to her feet and began to slowly make her way to the fence. She glanced back at the bison but it had already gone back to ignoring her. With a sigh, she pushed on.

"Hello..." she said softly when she reached Shep, avoiding his eyes. She couldn't quite work up the nerve just yet to crawl her way under the beams to his side.

Shep was glad to see Blue approach him and greet him, although it seemed very much like she didn't want to. "Hey..." He paused, glancing around awkwardly. "I came to talk about what happened the other day..."

"Oh, erm, alright..." she muttered, feeling her stomach sink. With some hesitation she lowered herself onto her belly and crawled under the lowest beam back outside the fence, keeping a noticeably distance from Shep. She wasn't afraid of him, per se, or that he'd do anything to her, but old habits died hard.

Shep tilted his head to the side ever so slightly at her reaction to him but his mind quickly drifted back to the matter at hand. "I guess I'll just jump right into it." He gave a short cough to clear his throat. "I came here today to apologize for... how I reacted towards you that day..." He glanced away uncomfortably."It wasn't right and I'm a bad friend for it. I understand if you're upset."

Blue looked at Shep in surprise, ears perked. "I-I'm not upset with you." Blue responded after a moment of silence. She looked down again, self conscious. "I'm so sorry your mother was hurt. Is she ok?" she forced the words out, scared to hear his answer.

"You're...not?" Shep rose a brow, giving her a funny look. "You should be."

"She can't work for a while but she's...fine." He gave her a half smile, unsure of what to do or say next. He dragged a paw across the dirt awkwardly, peeking at Blue from the corner of his eyes.

"I'm really happy to hear that." Blue stated emphatically. She'd been worried this whole time that the injury had been very serious. She'd almost driven herself crazy thinking that. "No, I was never upset with you." she replied with a sigh, looking away again. She felt terribly awkward. "I...thought you really hated me..." she finally said softly, tail curling around her paws at her vulnerability.

Shep found it hard to believe that Blue wasn't at least a little bit mad at him, but she seemed pretty serious when she said it.

"Hated you??" He drew his head back, surprised. "No, of course not. Though... I guess I figured you felt similarly towards me after that." Blue was clearly a bit different than most females, who probably would've been furious at Shep's response that day.

Blue shook her head furiously, ears flopping everywhere. "No, no, not at al! Your mother was hurt and I'd insisted that you leave your chores and and...I'm very sorry, Shep." she finally concluded, tucking her ears against her skull and bowing her head in shame.

Shep glanced around awkwardly, brows furrowing in confusion. Why was she still trying to apologize to him? This was supposed to be his apology. "Well... stop being sorry! What I've been trying to tell you is I'm the one who's supposed to be sorry."

Blue tried to hide it, with questionable success, but she flinched at Shep's raised voice. Logically she knew she wasn't in any danger with him, but old habits really did die hard. "Ok." she mumbled in a soft voice, not quite able to make eye contact with him still. Her tail was tucked between her legs and lost in her layers of long fur and hoped Shep wouldn't notice.

"Okay, well. Good." He glanced over her uncomfortably. "Now... relax." Shep's brows furrowed with worry as he hoped things would just go back to the way they were before. Things were definitely easier then. He didn't like when relationships got complicated and awkward like this. "Are we... good?"

Blue offered a weak smile and finally met his eyes shyly. "Yeah. We're good." she replied. Her unease hadn't dissipated and was only growing worse. She didn't want Shep seeing her like this but it wasn't as if she could run off without an explanation to calm herself down. Futilely she hoped her heart would stop racing and everything could just go back to being good.

Shep continued to study her with an uneasy gaze. She didn't look much like she thought they were good, but he had to just accept it at this point. "Um, okay, good!" He responded, giving her a friendly nuzzle... but his movements came out rushed and he felt his face connect with hers a bit harshly. He gave a loud and nervous laugh. "Bye then!" was all he said before he began to race back off to his farm. That went well, I guess. He thought to himself as he ran.

Blue saw Shep's incoming face and could do nothing to avoid it. With an audible clonk he head bumped her and she had to wobble in order to keep her balance. Before she could respond he was racing off and she was left staring after him, dumbfounded. But as his form disappeared in the distance she snorted and was eventually laughing outright.

Feeling much better she stood and shook herself off before loping back to her farmhouse to catch up on some neglected chores.
