Description
A role play between sourlemonfox and switt featuring our characters Skunk and Lawson for .----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Skunk lay on an outcrop of an overhanging ridge. From this vantage point she could see throughout most of the Aryn valley. Since making the journey to join her cousin's pack she'd been spending much of her free time here because she thought if she strained her neck high enough she could see over the mountains and into Chandor where her adoptive father, Oden, now lived. She huffed a long sigh as the pangs of missing him resounded in her chest.
She didn't mean to cut herself off from the rest of her new pack. Skunk loved her cousin and was still overjoyed at them refinding each other. But she was shy and missing her old pack--it was hard to be excited about meeting new wolves. With another little huff she rolled onto her side, letting her head dangle slightly over the edge and tail swaying slowly in the drying grass.

Fall was coming soon, he could feel it. There was the tiniest change of color in the aspen trees of Aspendell. The young adult's dark pelt was a striking contrast to the white bark of the trees, their small leaves trembling with the wind. Gold eyes gazed up at the bright, blue sky and smiled. There was no better place in the Domain.
Eventually, he came through the tree line into the prairie land. As much as he loved the company of his packmates, it was nice to have some alone time, and he was enjoying the calming sounds of nature. Still, it had been some time since he left the den... It was probably best to head back that way. Rolling his shoulders, he made his way back lazily.

sourlemonfox said the following:
Skunk's ears perked up when she saw another wolf making his way through the prairie lands below. She didn't recognize him but assumed he must be part of the pack. The feeling of loneliness tugged at her and she scrabbled quickly into a standing position, turning and trotting down the ridge. She broke into a lope, not wanting to lose the wolf, hoping she wouldn't make any wrong turns in this new territory.
Skunk rounded a bend and scanned the tall, waving grasses, finally catching another glimpse of the dark pelt. Fighting back her shyness she loped out into the field and gave a small yip of greeting to catch their attention.

switt said the following:
Lawson was completely zoned out and had no idea another wolf was close by. He was staring at the ground, his mind thinking about nothing in particular. Moving his gaze skyward, it was hard to ignore such a beautiful day! How many of them were left? Winter was only a few moons away... He shook his head in disgust. This was no time to be a downer! Instead, he inhaled deeply then exhaled through his mouth, nose scrunched at the tickling pollen.
Out of nowhere and unexpectedly, he pivoted to investigate who made the noise. Squinting his eyes in a futile attempt to block out the sun, he finally spotted a black and wolf coming his way, and his tail wagged immediately. The she-wolf smelled faintly of Aryn with another scent mixed in. Odd. Was she new? He could've sworn he had met everyone already... No problem! It was another friend to make. "Hey there!" he shouted, his posture completely relaxed.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Hi!" Skunk said, a litte breathlessly, as she trotted up to the soon-to-be-not-stranger. She took a second to catch her breath and straightened up her posture, still friendly and relaxed, but not so slumped. "My name is Skunk. Lady Athena is my cousin and I'm new to Aryn. I used to live in Kausen but..." she trailed off, ears flicking back momentarily at the pang of loss she still felt. "So...what's your name?" she asked, regaining her chipper attitude.
----------
switt said the following:
Wow, she was chatty! Just what he liked – wolves that enjoyed jumping right into conversation! The male shifted his weight from paw to paw as she spoke, raising an eyebrow when she introduced herself. ”Skunk, huh? Nickname? Real name?” he asked. It was an, er, interesting name and he attempted to sound polite in his question. His eyebrow stayed raised once she finished. ”You’re related to Lady Athena? That’s pretty cool! Have you met Erin yet? She’s my sister!”
Lawson dipped his head slightly before trying to catch her eye. ”I’m Lawson!” he said cheerfully. Blinking, he peered at her for a second when she trailed off. ”Kausen? Where’s that? Is that another pack around here?” The brown wolf was absolutely hopeless with the Domain’s geography. He knew the borders and landmarks inside Aryn, but every now and again he was known to still get lost inside their territory.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Skunk gave an awkward laugh. "Oh, uh, it's my nickname I guess. My real name is Miela, but not many wolves know that." she trailed of again, feeling awkward about her nickname. Most wolves seemed a little taken aback by her nickname, but no one had really ever asked what her real name was.
She listened politely as he spoke and smiled at the feeling of easy camaraderie between them. "No, I'm sorry, I haven't met Erin yet. Kausen, my old pack in the valley over, was disbanded. Alpha Gregor wanted to be closer to his daughter so he and most of the pack left for Chandor." Skunk explained, not bothering to take a breath until the very end.
With a charming smile she added, "It's very nice to meet you, Lawson."
----------
switt said the following:
He smiled and nodded slightly. ”Miela, huh? That’s a really pretty name.” It seemed strange to go by Skunk with a real name like that. Who was he to judge? Maybe it held a special meaning to her or something. Quickly doing a quick sweep of her marking, the nickname made more sense, especially with her coloring.
Lawson moved into a seated position and flashed another large smile, enjoying the casual conversation. “Ah, well, you’ll meet her eventually. She’s one of the Vicars around here.” He admired her ability to speak almost breathlessly and snorted with laughter, trying to cover it with a cough, though it wasn’t very well done. Clearing his throat, he nodded as he pretended to completely understand. ”Got it. I’ve heard of Chandor… but I have no idea where it is,” he confessed. Wasn’t it to the west? Over a mountain range, maybe? Dang it, he had heard of it before when Seaver talked about his friend Impala… Why didn’t he pay better attention to the little details? Shaking his head, Lawson blinked and opened his eyes to see her dazzling smile, and felt his cheeks grow warm.
He scratched his front leg awkwardly as he tried desperately to find words. “So Skunk, how long have you been in Aryn? Do you like it so far?” he asked in an attempt to keep the conversation going. Hopefully losing his cool didn’t make her think he was some weirdo.
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Skunk heard the small chuckle in Lawson's cough and felt herself becoming embarrassed, but was stopped when she realized he wasn't laughing at her. She also let out a small giggle, the laughter contagious.
"Chandor is just over those mountains." Skunk answered, pointing her nose to show him.
She sat down as well, her fluffy tail wrapping around her paws to keep them toasty despite the coming chill. "Not very long" she replied, tilting her head to the side as she tried to think of just how long she'd been in her cousin's pack. "I like it very much. The wolves all seem very kind, and of course being with my cousin makes me very happy. We hadn't seen each other in a very long time."
Using her paw to point at him, she asked, "How about you, Lawson? Have you been in this pack long?
----------
switt said the following:
His smile grew larger when she was caught with a case of the giggles. She was very easy to talk to, he thought. They both seemed quite comfortable with each other already, and so there wasn’t a doubt in his mind about their growing friendship.
The brown and black wolf blinked at her before turning his head to follow the direction of her nose. Ah, so that’s where Chandor was. He nodded with his lips downwards with a fake serious expression on his face. “Yes, that way. …You’ll probably have to remind me where it is another 10 times before I remember,” he admitted with a charming smirk.
Winter was definitely coming soon. It felt like it was summer just the other day… Already the gold and red leaves were littering the ground as the world prepared for the upcoming cold. His mind wandered to what Aryn would look like covered in white. How would the pack dynamic change when the bounty of the warmer seasons went away? There were so many Coursers now… Hopefully, he wouldn’t be out of a job.
Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to Skunk, and frowned slightly at how rude he had been. That and he hadn’t actually heard what she said. He swallowed loudly. ”Y-yeah, uh, everyone’s nice.” Crap. Was that what she had even said? “Oh, uh, I’ve been here since the beginning of summer. When did you come over? I’m surprised we haven’t met until now.”
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
"Oh, I've only been here a few weeks." she responded happily. "I made the journey once Kausen was disbanded. It wasn't very difficult thankfully." She enjoyed chatting to this other wolf. It'd been a while since she'd really sat down and spoke with someone. And he was so easy to talk to! She found herself deeply enjoying his company.
"I like you, Lawson." she chirped happily. "I'm so happy we met." she gave her most cheerful smile. "Maybe one day we can hunt together. I think it could be fun!"
----------
switt said the following:
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear it disbanded. At least you got a new home here!” he quipped cheerfully. It was reassuring to know she didn’t have to go through too many hardships after her pack dissolved. Huh, what would he do if that ever happened to Aryn? Hopefully it wouldn’t… It must have been scary, but Skunk seemed to brave if she was adapting this well. Having family nearby probably helped too.
He felt his cheeks heat up at her compliment. “I like you too! I’m glad we’re friends.” His tail thumped against the ground slowly. ”Yeah, for sure! Hunting is much more fun with company.”
----------
sourlemonfox said the following:
Skunk smiled wide and toothily. "Then it's settled! We'll make a day of it. Soon!" she announced about their hunting date. It was nice to have something to look forward to now.
With a wave of her tail she stood and faced Lawson, tail gently wagging behind her. "Wanna walk back to the main den with me?" she asked with a grin and tilt of her head. She was excited to have made another friend in her new pack. And a male no less! Lawson was so easy to talk to it filled her chest with warmth.
----------
switt said the following:
His tail wagged behind him at the thought. He nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, I can’t wait!” Hopefully it wouldn’t be too long before they would get the chance to hunt together.
It took him a second to muster an intelligent thought. His mouth moved wordlessly for a second before he chuckled sheepishly, staring off the left in embarrassment. “Sure, I’d be happy to.” Once he was beside her, he jerked his head forward to being their trek back. The brown wolf was excited to see how their friendship would blossom. It would be nice to have another wolf to call a friend in Aryn.
