It was a lazy summer afternoon with the sun shining high in a pale blue sky, beating down on Buk's back as he padded through a field of tall grasses headed towards the woods. His eyes seemed a bit dull and bored but as he continued through the field he caught the scent of another wolf; a scent he recognized to be female. His ears perked curiously and his brows rose, his pace faltering for a moment as he considered what to do from here. He hadn't had a run in with any other wolves in a surprising amount of time, although he was always sure to stay away from pack territories so perhaps that was why.

He pressed on towards the woods, following the scent until it led him to a well-hidden den. He paused a few feet from it, staring at the dark entrance with his head cocked to the side. Unfortunately, he now also caught the scent of a male that seemed to also frequent the area which caused his ears to twist back. He looked around the area to see if there was anyone in sight, squinting up at the sunlight poking through the canopy of trees. It would have all seemed eerily quiet and still if it were not for the birds chirping and fluttering around in the branches above.

A sound between roar and snarl ripped from Rikki's throat as he lunged at the strange male wolf, jaws open wide. He grabbed the intruder's neck and used his momentum and weight to throw them back. He'd been resting nearby when he heard someone approaching the den entrance and had immediately run to protect his mate.

Buk was put into a state of shock by a devastating blow to his neck from a rather large brute of a wolf who had, to him, appeared out of no where. The wolf had thrown him to the side and he slowly got up from where he landed, shaking his head to get a grip of the situation again. He glared over at the male, and although he was relieved the male hadn't just torn his neck open and had left him instead with what would probably be a bruise, he was still a bit miffed the male was behaving so aggressively. "Calm down, will ya?" He spat at the male, his hackles bristled and ears flat against his head as he cautiously eyed him from where he stood, not yet daring to make any movements.

"Get out of my territory." Rikki's growl was low and dangerous as he placed himself between the den and the intruder.

Evita was resting inside and the puppies were due anytime. His first attack hadn't drawn any blood, he'd only been attempting to surprise the stranger and scare him off. But if intimidation didn't work, he had no qualms using every tooth and claw he had to make sure the other male stayed away from his family.

"Your territory?" Buk responded rudely with a snort, glancing between Rikki and the den he was protecting. His overly-protective behavior made sense. There was clearly a pregnant female inside that den, and she must have been pretty far along to not poke her head out of the den to see what was going on. He meant no harm to either of them... But still, he didn't want to let this brute think he could win so easily. Buk was not about to run away with his tail tucked between his legs. He stiffened, deciding he'd hold his ground a bit longer, staring the brute before him in the eyes.

"Yeah. My territory." Rikki took a step toward the male, lips pulled up to reveal his sharp front teeth. "And if you don't leave--" Rikki's growl faded out as his ears began to twitch.

Something else had caught his attention. Knowing better, he still took his eyes from the intruder and began to scan the forest, ears perked and nearly quivering to catch whatever sound had pulled him away from the confrontation.

Buk felt his lips begin to curl in response when suddenly the male's words cut off and he seemed distracted. Then, he heard it too. His angered expression fell and he slowly raised his head, ears cupping forward to better hear. It was a rustling, but not that of a smaller creature or fellow wolf. It was something big. Buk's hackles remained raised uncertainly and he glanced over at the large brute he had just been ready to fight, a hint of worry in his eyes. He wasn't sure what was coming, but it was definitely worse than the fight they had just been about to have.
