"Aunty Athena, Aunty Athena! Oops. I mean Cousin Athena!" Skunk bounded through the tall grasses in excitement, the importance of her mission making her heedless of her paws. With an 'oomph' she toppled head over tail and rolled into the older wolf. She came up spluttering, bits of dirt and grass raining around her. Catching her breath she attempted to climb her cousin, settling for leaning against her. "Athena, my mommy said that you were sad so I ran all the way here to make you feel better!" she blurted out, tripping over her words as she panted. "We're gonna have a perfect day!"

Ok so let me explain. Recently, WynBird (isitokIdidthis??) and I decided to make Athena and Skunk cousins on their mothers' side. So Skunk was born into Old Aryn and has many fond memories of her family, including her favorite cousin. I was stalking reading Athena's bio and saw that she once had a mate and they'd attempted to start their own family but unfortunately the pups for stillborn. Athena was obviously upset over this, so I decided to force my affection doodle up this piece to show a puppy!Skunk trying her best to make Athena feel better. She's obviously too young to understand what happened, all she knows is that she's going to do everything she can to make her big cousin smile again.

I'm not 100% certain if this timeline matches up right, so this doesn't have to be cannon or anything, I just thought it was a cute idea and my hands got ahead of themselves.

Woooow. Ok. So. I drew Athena way back when and I guess I mentally blocked out how much pain her markings caused me? Cause I started in on this like 'oh man this is great' and it took me about 5 minutes to remember why I almost threw my tablet the last time I drew her. Her and Skunk really do make perfect cousins becAUSE THEIR MARKINGS HURT ME. In the best way.

But in all seriousness, this was so so soooo much fun to draw and color. Tried the whole lighting thing again. Still not actually shading/detail, but GETTING there. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.
