A roleplay between and featuring our characters Rikki and Evita for

warpugs said the following:

Evita strolled lazily through a field of tall grasses, enjoying the near-summer sun as it warmed her back and face. She squinted her green eyes into the sun as she studied the blue sky, a content smile on her muzzle. She glanced back down at her swollen sides as the grasses brushed against them. She couldn't remember ever being as excited for anything else than she was at that moment.

It didn't take her too long to figure out she was pregnant. She had remembered some signs from the older female wolves when she was growing up in her previous pack, and if she was even unsure then the steady growing of her stomach was sign enough. She could hardly wait for them to be born, and she had a feeling Rikki felt the same. Although, he showed it in a completely different way. A very worrisome and overbearing kind of way. She didn't really mind though, as to her this just showed how much he really cared.

She sighed happily, letting her tongue loll out of her mouth as she continued at her waddled pace through the field.

Rikki trotted back to the den at a quick pace, a limp and bloody rabbit dangling from his jaws. It hadn't taken him long to find and catch the rabbit, but he hated leaving Evita unprotected for any amount of time. As he rounded the bend and began to skid downhill toward their den he couldn't help but feel excited just to see her again. He loved resting his head on her growing belly as they napped and itched to be beside her.

Rikki stopped outside the den and deposited the prey onto the ground, giving a yip for Evita to join him. When a moment passed and she hadn't come out, he worriedly thrust his head into opening and looked around, sniffing frantically. Where had she gone to this time? With a noise halfway between a growl and a whimper he pivoted on his back legs and loped in the direction her trail led.

Being as round as she was, it didn't take him long to spot her in the distance, waddling through a field of grasses. He picked up his pace and called out before overtaking her and placing himself directly in her path.

"What are you doing out here? Why did you leave the den without me? Are you ok?" he asked in rapid succession, immediately sticking his nose against her face and snuffling her, trying to sense if she was in any state of distress.

Evita had heard Rikki's rapid approach but continued her waddling, ready to look over her shoulder and happily greet him when he lept in front of her. She should have known he'd find her so quickly.

Her brows raised as he fired questions at her and she couldn't help but give him an amused half-smile. "I just wanted to go for a walk. It's so nice out." She attempted to move around him to continue her stroll through the field. "You can't keep me cooped up in that den this whole pregnancy, you know!"

Rikki pouted as she walked around him, turning his head to glare at her as she went. He fell into step beside her, head lowered as he glared around their surroundings.

"It's not safe to wander off by yourself in your condition. You're so chubby you'd never be able to protect yourself." he argued grumpily.

Evita shot him her own glare as he called her "chubby" before she remembered it was actually true and she glanced back to her round belly once more. She couldn't help but grin every time she saw it. "Well. Alright. I'll try not to wander off too much." She gave a nonchalant shrug, looping around the field to return in the direction of their den.

"So," She drawled, glancing over at him with a small hopeful grin. "You were hunting?"

"Of course." he replied, a smirk forming on his maw. "I brought a nice plump rabbit back for my nice plump mate."

Rikki arched his neck and gently nipped at one of her ears, growling playfully as he made sure to slobber Evita as much as possible.

"Great! I'm starving!" Evita picked up her pace as best she could only to be slowed down again by Rikki's chewing and slobbering on her ear. She let out an annoyed grumble to how her distaste for the slobber yet still continued to tolerate it. She had learned there was no use fighting it. She craned her head in his direction in order to keep moving.

Rikki quit growling and let go of Evita's ear as they walked. He couldn't help the lopsided smile stuck on his face. Evita waddled at his side, their puppies safe and sound. He snaked his head around to give her a quick lick on the cheek as they returned to the forest, welcomed by the songs of birds.
