Description
Continued from:June 17th, 1955
Buenos Aires, Argentina
All around her the world was burning and Ilsa Hauppman would have had it no other way.
Television screens showed how the aliens were reducing the great cities of the world to rubble and ash as various news agencies reported on the devastation. Paris, London, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, even her once-beloved Berlin now resembled little more than burned-out husks of twisted metal and boiling asphalt. Humanity was in it's death throes and was completely impotent to stop them. Even the Soviet Superwoman's best efforts were quickly dwindling to naught. That was the part that made Ilsa smile the most. Not the millions of dead, inferior races or the once-proud Allied nations that now felt as the Reich had, but the fact that the savior of the Soviet Union was finally knowing what it was like to lose hope. Early in the invasion she had managed to save a few key cities in Russia like Leningrad, Stalingrad and Moscow from the invaders. She was inspired and pushed herself twice as hard to repel them. She inspired those Slavic fools to try harder as well, battling against what was a inevitable. A "Charge of the Light Brigade" if you will. The invaders had too many ships for one person to ever possibly destroy them all. In the last few days Leningrad eventually fell as did Stalingrad. It must have broken her heart and stripped her of hope. Ilsa so wished she could look in her blue Slav eyes and finally see her spirit broken, but there was no time. It was, as she already knew, a mathematical certainty that this world would fall and Ilsa had no intention of being here when that occurred. It was her destiny to find another world to conquer for the Reich.
Scientists rushed back and forth in front of her as she approached the machine. She ran her tongue over the inside of her teeth as she watched them in the final stages of preparation. An unknown number of gears churned to life around her and steam powered pistons drove copper rails upright. Two sets of bright metal rings were lifted high into the air on both sides of her. Illumination flooded the expanse between them. The machine's steel and copper clockworks gleamed under the flood-lights and hundreds of metal tubes shimmered amid countless brightly colored wires. To think that the device she had held in her hands from that alien scout ship over a decade ago would have been able to produce this gateway. It was almost ironic that the very invaders that now were grinding this world into dust under their heels had given her the means of escape. It was her destiny. Footsteps behind her turned her attention away from the machine to behind her. The tall charismatic man in uniform with the dueling scar across his cheek stopped a few feet next to her and looked up at the machine.
"Magnificent Ilsa...wouldn't Gruppenführer von Trotha have loved to have seen this?" he stated putting his hands on his hips.
"He would have insulted my intelligence for not unlocking it's secrets earlier and tried to assume control of the program which Himmler would have let him." she said with a tone of disgust, "Good to see you Otto. I take it this isn't a social visit however."
Otto Skorzeny smiled at her warmly. "Somewhat. I have something for you." The former SS-Obersturmbannführer and daring war-hero of the Reich replied reaching into the pocket of his tunic. From it he retrieved a gold pocket watch with an ornate swastika etched into the back casing. "Herr Doktor Mengele noticed how much you were admiring it when you last visited him and wanted me to make sure that you got it when next I was here in Argentina."
There was no smile on Ilsa's coldly-beautiful face as she accepted the gift, placing it in her own pocket without warmth. "Please give Josef my thanks...but I suspect there is more to your visit."
Otto shook his head. "No my dear. Herr Himmler is concerned about this project. He and General Roush...the colonels. They don't entirely trust you Ilsa, especially after all that time with the late Dr. Frank and you failed to produce any meaningful results."
Ilsa glared back at him with her cold-blue eyes. "Dr, Frank died before he was able to share any of his secrets with me. The man was nefarious and didn't make careful notes."
"So you've told them. They are concerned that perhaps this project is a doomed exercise as well. They are also concerned that perhaps the Soviet woman might just be able to win...drive these aliens off and leave the governments of the world crippled and demoralized...perfect for us to make our move and let the Reich rise again."
The Aryan woman's lip pulled back in a curl of contempt, her stubborn, icy countenance giving way to emotion. "She is going to fail Otto...this world is doomed. If Hitler's dream of an Aryan future is to be secured it is to be in a fresh world, a new world where we can finally fulfill our destiny."
Skorzeny looked behind her at the machine and it's numerous control panels. "I think that Herr Himmler and the General would have been more convinced if von Trotha was behind this project. I'm not trying to insult you...I have been one of your few supporters on this...but the fact is that they see too much of Heydrich in you and it scares them. Your passion disturbs them."
"My passions drive me, unlike any of them...growing fat and lazy under this South American sun, oiled down by beautiful young boys."
"They have legitimate concerns Ilsa. They want to shut you down."
Ilsa grinned at him almost maniacally, her voice almost a shriek. "That is because they are nothing but a bunch of weak, dottering, incompetent old fools! Every one of them lacks any sort of vision! Himmler's buffoonish command is one of the primary reasons we lost the Eastern front and the reason the movement languishes now! When I reach this new world I will be the Reichsführer! I will be in command! It will be my vision, a pure-blooded Aryan vision that will hold sway!"
The former operating leader of Operations Griffin and Werewolf watched her for a long moment before responding. He reached into his top pocket and retrieved a silver cigarette case, opening it and retrieving one of the slim paper and tobacco sticks. "It almost sounds to me Ilsa, if I may, that you don't plan on waiting for approval. That perhaps you have no intention of listening to Himmler and the General or even including them any further in your operation here. Am I far off?"
Otto watched her carefully as her face returned to it's stone-like scowl. As he lit his cigarette and waited for her reply he shifted his gaze and kept a closer eye on her hands. He had never actually seen her transform into that creature that the command staff warned him about or the troops had whispered about during the War. The control for her chemical injection was located on her wrists...that much he knew...and he had no intention of having her shift form into a hulking beast and silence him. She knew that he was here on behalf of ODESSA and Himmler, the people who had funded and supplied her project. Their orders had been clear: This operation of hers was to cease immediately until they could better assess the situation. If she resisted, he was to shoot her and assume control of the facility until someone else arrived. Ilsa wasn't stupid at all and probably had anticipated this visit, just not from an old friend like Otto.
"You're very perceptive Otto." she replied, "What do you intend to do now? Report back to them my insubordination or assassinate me here?"
Skorzeny watched as she moved her hands behind her back and frowned.
"Neither dear Ilsa. As I said I am one of your few staunch supporters of this project. I have no intention of carrying out Herr Himmler's orders in this matter. I agree with your appraisal of the situation. This world is lost, just the same as it was to us in 1945. My only request is...is that I accompany you to whichever alternate earth you have selected."
Ilsa's cold smile returned for a moment. She cocked her head to the side and responded. "Why would you want to do that Otto?"
The tall officer took a long series of drags from his cigarette. "I have always managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat...turned death into a fighting chance for life. Rescuing Mussolini, putting down Valkyrie and organizing the Werewolves...escaping prison, helping to form ODESSA...Yours seems like the only chance we have, no matter how slim, to avoid total annihilation at the hands of these beings. You could use someone like me for both my strategic paramilitary training and my knowledge of clandestine warfare. Let me go first with a few of my men and scout out the location after you have selected it, which I can only assume will be within the next few days."
The blonde Aryan woman moved her hands out from behind her back and motioned him over to one of the control displays. Cautiously walking over with her he looked at what she was showing him. It was a map of sorts...almost like a chart of the cosmos. Hundreds upon hundreds of alternate realities, all of them different variations of Earth flashed across the monitor. It made his jaw drop open and Ilsa began to type furiously on a keyboard that had buttons in a language he did not recognize...symbols and pictographs it seemed. The screen began to focus in on different locations. An earth where the dinosaurs still walked. An earth where mankind had been destroyed in what appeared to be a great war. An earth from the distant past. An earth from the future. Endless variations. Endless possibilities.
"Mein Gott Ilsa...how is this even possible?"
Ilsa signaled sharply to two of the scientists working across from her "More power!" she barked, "and do not let the power drop!"
The SS Major then turned her full attention back to Skorzeny. "It wasn't until they showed up and began broadcasting and communicating in this code, their own language I suppose. Then I was finally able to translate and decipher how to unlock this dimensional gateway's true potential. When I used this device on the Soviet Superwoman in Berlin I was striking out blindly. I wasn't able to fully rid myself of her because I did not fully understand the technology. Now the secrets are completely in my grasp and rather than use it to destroy her I am going to use it to leave her here, the last living person on a dead world."
Otto looked back at Ilsa as he spoke. "Perhaps Herr Himmler and the others were right. They should be afraid of you."
To be continued...

The artwork here was provided by the amazing skills of who produces some of the most atmospheric pieces I've ever seen.
A massive thanks to for organizing this series, commissioning the art and being such an incredible friend, patron and fan of my stories and characters.
Ilsa Hauppman, Soviet Superwoman, von Trotha and the story all are my property and creations.
This takes place in the home dimension of Soviet Superwoman and will expose a great deal more about her history.

Ilsa still never ceases to shock as that first line did to me. For all the evil she is it is still her world but she is glad to see it burn...evil evil evil!

Otto hit the nose on the head with that last comment! This story is very good and we are seeing it form all angles Ilsa building the portal for the last 10 years in South America was brilliant.
Olga seems to be putting up a good fight but unfortunately, Leningrad, Stalingrad and Moscow fell. It`s too much for her do single-handedly but shes pushing herself to try which is the hallmark of any hero.
Brilliant chapter My Dear as always you don`t disappoint!
Great art by BAKART! 2 thumbs Up!

Interesting to see Otto Skorzeny in league with Ilsa! Out of curiosity, did he also work with Nasser and Gaddafi in this dimension, like he did in ours? My compliments to the artist, and to you, tovarishe, on an excellent installation in the series!

This is one of those stories where I have a million things to say, but nothing really needs to be said, other than telling you that you sure can craft an intriguing tale. Downright epic!
