-------
Tikhomirov LVT-84 is a mass produced Soviet select-fire directed energy weapon, adopted as standard Soviet Army's infantry weapon in early 1985. With much of its construction made from stamped metal alloys and cast plastics, it remains affordable in mass production and even more easy to use by its operators. Laser beams shot from this rifle are powerful enough to successfully engage and destroy light-armored infantry.
Designed with bull-pup configuration for ease of carry and versatility in close quarters. Outfitted with 1,5x scope and back-up iron sights (very simple, for close ranges up to 50 meters, beyond that a scope should be used). Could be outfitted with GP-19A 40-mm underslung grenade launcher.
While laser rifle is somewhat inferior to International Cooperation Pact's (successor to NATO military bloc) plasma-based personal weapons in terms of stopping power and penetration, they make up for that in simplicity of mass production and ease of use - it more than make up for that in terms of ease of use and accuracy. Shooter have to simply point and shoot, with beams travelling and the speed of light and are not affected by gravity or wind. Also, no need to adjust for particle drift, as it is with plasma weapons.
