Description
IJN tenryuu, was a tenryuu class AA Cruiser commissioned in 1976, her class was designed to fill a major gap in the imperial Japanese fleet, this gap was that of a dedicated AA ship, however she also was designed to have some ASW capabilities and to work alongside dedicated ASW platforms. In the late 1980s several of the tenryuu class were converted to dedicated ASW warships, this involves the complete remodel of the entire Stern of the ship with the missile systems being removed and replaced with a large helicopter flight deck and hanger, along with the addition of a large towed array sonar.
