Description If you read Marvel comics in the 80s, you had a crush on Silver Sable. Either that or there's something seriously wrong with you.

I don't really know why I suddenly remembered this character a few days ago, but, well, here she is. I managed to squeeze in a few things that I've been meaning to try for a while with this piece. First off, I've always loved the mix of completely flat and highly rendered/painted parts on covers that Dave Johnson has done, and the color mix of Silver Sable's costume kind of really lends itself to that treatment. Secondly, as you can see, all the detailing on the body is digital painting, there's no inked shading at all. I don't know if everyone else does this, but I always find myself turning off the lineart layer on my colored pieces and thinking "hmm, this might look kind of cool just as a painting if I'd started with that in mind." Well, this time I did it.

Anyway, this is kinda different from my usual stuff, I guess, so let me know what you think.

I like the contrast from her face to her hair. how you detailed the face but left the hair as a solid color, makes a pretty interesting effect

Thanks - looks like there's a lot of disagreement over that part of this pic. Some people hate it. Glad to hear you're not one of them.

I don't think there are words in the English language to describe how much I love YTMND.com.

Personally i don't like the 3d/2d mix myself byut what you yhave here is very impressive, great detail on the gun, it's so hard to get that sort of thing right in contrast to the person holding the weapon

Well, get to it then.
Come to think of it, we should hold an open Silver Sable jam, but somehow I don't think anyone would participate, hahaha.

What's funny is that I still have no idea how it happened. It must be the pose or something. I was thinking Dave Johnson when I drew this, really.

Very nice! Very FrankMillerish, with the flat/detail like that. It lets you concentrate on the important bits (her face is lovely)!

Her upper arm's a little long.

spacehamster In reply to lethe-gray [2007-04-19 10:16:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've kinda been having trouble with arm length lately. I have no idea where this is coming from, really, but I keep drawing them too long lately.

Anyway, thanks - it's funny, I was actually thinking something about this piece reminds me of Miller too.
