Description
In the beginning of 2009 I came up with the idea to create a birthyday calendar with my baby character. I didn't get to it till nearly 3-quarters of a year later, but there you have it.The idea was to draw and ink 12 pictures (manually), colour the figure in Photoshop and do the backgrounds with watercolour paint.
January is winter month and winter stands for snow, even though it doesn't always work like that. I was really happy with my background here, used white acrylic paint to create the snowflakes. But somehow it did make it difficult to choose the right colours for the drawing. I like using a limited colour palette, but in this case it made the baby disappear against the background. Greens and browns it was then, still sticking to bluish hues, even in the skin and carrot.

This is so adorable, and looks absolutly professionally done, its a portfolio peice for sure.
I do like the colours especially the way the baby has warmer Brown tones contrasting against the cooler blues, thats just the right mix and gives that winter feeling with out makeing the baby look cold too.
well done

Considering I've mostly made Christmas cards with this character, you would think he'd live there

I love experimenting with colour, sometimes even more than drawing

Oooh, mooi geheel geworden! Zo met die tak en de wortel erbij kunnen de kleuren van de baby heel goed.

The colouring of the baby works better with the background this time. Especially the fluffy parts of his clothing.
The picture itself is adorable

Yes, it was good advice from Afke to try something else and less smooth. It took some experimenting, but this colouring style works better with the backgrounds (while keeping it simple, in terms of technique), I'm very pleased with it
