Still better writing and storytelling than any other game I've played in the last 16 or so years, but sure.

I would love the same story told in a bearable way.

Dialogue wise, I thought it was told really well, considering that's how 20 year olds actually talk (unlike Life is strange's dumbass emoji speak and usage of bizarre slang that teens don't actually unironicly use from my experience). Maybe it's just my experience as a 22 year old who lives in a small town, but from my experience, Night in the woods kinda nailed how young adults have an almost twitter like speech pattern, cause we do say "like" a lot, and we do still have some dumbass slang to our speech, and NitW got that down pretty well for the most part. I also like how the game decided to make the writing a bit more colorful, we have too many games nowadays that are so blandly written that it feels more like a wiki page than dialogue coming form a person.
I do understand how NitW's dialgue could get under someones nerves, especially if they just hate the linguistics of young adults and teens in general, so I guess to each their own. Sorry it wasn't for you, though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Even if Americans really do talk like this, the written word is different than a movie. But you seem really passionate about defending it so nevermind.

Sometimes movie dialogue isn't really whats best in character writing, especially in a story like this. Sorry if I seema bit too passionate on it.

The game was good, but man...it got...real for me. I couldn't finish it. It started hitting me in my depressed-done-nothing-with-my-life-adult zone in my brain and I had to uninstall it. The game was awesome and I'd recommend it, just not to anyone dealing with depression issues.

I won't complain much about the story. Made me feel shitty as well but I decided to make it to the crime mystery.
But my nitpick is the horribly slow and cringy way it's delivered. I understand that a young american can't say a coherent sentence without filler words. But if a story is based 100% on dialogue the writer really doesn't need to include every single "like". And there's nothing to look at during all this endless running (nice trick to extend gameplay hours btw). I'd only recommend it to an enemy.
