Description
The first step for my Vincent Valentine cosplay from Final Fantasy VII is now complete. My sister and I have been working on it for about a week. This was our first time making armour type cosplay, but we think it came out well. It is not too difficult to make, but it is MUCH easier if you have someone else to help you.
~Frizz-Storyteller Made this tutorial for me to post on my page. The armour itself is constructed from craft foam. You can find it at any craft store really. We followed a craft foam armour tutorial. The link is at the bottom of this comment box. We used that tutorial as a base and sort of tweaked it from there. We also have some Youtube videos up if anyone is interested.
I will keep posting pictures of my updated cosplay as we get it together. Next up is probably the wig or cape. Wish us luck on our journey of cosplay.
If you have any specific questions, just send me a message and I will help you the best I can. I can also upload a picture of the templates we made if anyone wishes so.

I apologize for the delayed response! And thank you so much! I appreciate your comment. It is just the stuff kids use. Pat Catan's or Joann Fabrics sell it by the yard very cheep. Or you can buy it in smaller sheets for under a dollar. Very cost effective so if you make a mistake, no big deal. EVA foam is great for larger armor pieces. I have heard that craft foam can be bought in bigger thickness online and can be used for armor. Only it is called L200 foam. I hope this helps! Happy cosplaying!

Hey there! Nice work, it looks great.
I'm going to be making a cybernetic arm prop for a cyberpunk LARP and this crafting foam method looks the best for what I want.
When you say you mixed glue and water, what sort of glue do you mean?

Thank you very much for commenting. I appreciate it.
The craft foam method works very well if you need to do armor. The glue we used was simply tacky glue from a craft store. It does not have to be very expensive.
Good luck with your cosplay work!

hey, srry to bother you again but that craft foam tutorial said to not put the mixture of glue and water on so that you get puddles right? but when i try to put it on it makes puddles on its own lol

Sparx-the-Fox In reply to aeris5312 [2011-05-20 19:19:53 +0000 UTC]
Do not worry. You are not bothering me.
It will make puddles sometimes. When this happens, try to smooth out the glue when it dires for a bit. The foam usually soaks this up. A fan works really well too. Your mixture may need more glue. Just remember the foam is similar to a sponge. It will soak up most of it. Ours had several puddles, do not worry.

Aaah, I hadn't thought of heating the foam! I just bought foam and went to town. Turned out pretty decent, but not perfect. Thanks for making this tutorial--I think I'm going to give it another try!

My sister and I had the same thoughts when we were making it. I never would have thought to heat it without a tutorial for craft foam we found on the internet. We decided to make this tutorial for the arm specifically though, thought it might help.
And you are very welcome. I am glad it is actually helpful. Good luck with try #2.
Your Vincent cosplay is very nice by the way.

It was much easier with the two of us though. Can't imagine making it alone.
Hard core was the effect we wanted.

True it is. I just would not like to wreck my claw by hurting someone. Though it is interesting to poke people while wearing the glove.

Did u hear about Japan? Man, they are getting hit hard! Right now the news is showing videos of the disaster. I love Japan, so it really caught my attention.

Ah Same here. School can be overwhelming.
Yes I have heard. I have been watching it on the news a lot these past few days. The death toll keeps rising, it is so terrible.
Life has been pretty much the same. Somewhat boring, but busy.

That is nice. At the anime convention we went to over the weekend, they were raising money for the cause. For every dollar they got, they made a paper crane. The myth is, if you make a chain of one thousand paper cranes, your wish will come true. It was really thoughtful.

Me as well. I watched an anime made a few years ago called Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 about what would happen in Japan if a massive earthuake were to occur. It follows two kids trying to get home. Very very sad, but well done.
