Description

Massachusetts Bay Railroad Enthusiasts chartered a special steam excursion out of Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, New Hampshire on Sunday, July 31st, 2011. Headed north into the White Mountains, steam locomotive 7470, a former 0-6-0 switcher for the Canadian National, hauled a five car consist including first class coach - Carol P. Reed, vista dome - Dorthea Mae, coaches - Mount Bemis and Mount Willard, and open air car - Silver Cascade. Diesel locomotive 252, a GP-38 built in 1966, assisted the consist for purposes of dynamic breaking. The excursion's northern most destination was Hazens before its return back to North Conway with 252 in the lead and 7470 trailing.

This was also my dad's 50th Birthday Weekend so it was quite the treat for him as well

My video [link] to those who wish to view this historic run as well.

Good catch (but a crop to remove the head would have been better).

I completely agree! I was looking at different ways I could've cropped this photograph but I couldn't think of a way to do it without making the picture overly lopsided or losing too much site context. Believe me, I was looking for ways to do it. There were about 60 people in front of me also trying to get this shot and about 40 people behind me. As far as taking the picture goes, you have to try to find that happy medium that allows you to get the image you want to capture without hindering anyone else's view behind you as well.

There's a method for this. Take a number of pictures at the same spot after the tourists have left, find the best match, and blend it with the original in Photoshop.
