Description So you wanna submit to the Walfas Station Wagon? Here's a guide on what goes in what folders and so on! (Now with correct spelling! See how easy it is to edit?)

Additional Tips:
-Practice with create.swf: know the controls, where the props are, and how to make what. I made a tutorial a while back, but the principles are still relevant: [link]
-Don't leave all the comedy in the description: put as much comedy in the picture itself.
-Edit your work properly. Practice with Gimp, Paint.net, or Photoshop.
-Get your facts straight. Research Touhou on Touhou Wiki ([link] ) and TVTropes ([link] ). Do the same for any other series you do.
-The best place to get started is the Table Flipping folder: you can get in on the battle against members and get to know them. You may also form alliances, which will get you to know them more.
-Wait patiently for the admins to approve your work. It requires two votes to accept or reject your work, and the better the work, the more likely it'll be accepted. If they reject it, you are entitled to ask why, and they are entitled to say why.
-DON'T CREDIT ME AS THE MAKER OF THE STATION WAGON!!! The Station Wagon was made by kitty0233 and htfkid2000 ( and ). I am just very prolific and I run the administrative side of this group (poorly, might I add). If you credit me as the "maker" of the Station Wagon after multiple warnings, God help you...
-Don't number your speech bubbles. Place them from top to bottom, left to right, and we'll read it that way. If it helps, re-position the characters so we can read the speech bubbles more easily.
-Don't rely on random humor or cliches. Do the funny thing and give your own fresh spin on things.
-Don't pair yourself with your favorite character. Treat all pairings as jokes unless you happen to be really good at pulling of convincing romances (which is quite hard).
-If a badly-made whatever gets accepted, you may be at the mercy of the rest of the members. If this happens, accept their feedback and use it to improve.

Hey Spaz, I'm new here, and I was wondering, how do you save your walfas work? I tried looking up a program to save but the site it was on was dead. Β ANy suggestions? Also, where is this join button?

Spaztique In reply to Nathan-Clark [2015-03-20 03:06:02 +0000 UTC]

I don't save my work within Walfas, actually: I use a program called AndySnap to edit. You can see the whole proccess on my Youtube channel under the video "Walfas Intensive."

Also, the join button is in the upper right corner of the WSW page.

Also Also, while some of this submission guide is a bit out of date, the standards are still there: put effort into your work, no blatant self-insert worship, and so on.

If it's art related, in the appropriate folders. Otherwise, it doesn't belong in the group. Even then, non-Walfas non-Touhou stuff isn't a likely fit for the group: the WSW accepts Touhou-related art, Non-Touhou Walfas, and Touhou-related Walfas. Non-Touhou Non-Walfas stuff doesn't really have a place in the group.

Really nice guide. Very helpful. Quick question though, is AndySnap easy enough to use to screenshot it? Also, I've never made a comic before is there anything specific I should know? I plan on making one.

EDIT: Forget the AndySnap thing. It won't work for me, like everything else. Gonna have to do it manually.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spaztique In reply to Haseo8 [2014-12-14 20:38:42 +0000 UTC]

There are more programs than AndySnap out there, luckily: you'll just have to find them like I find AndySnap.

rsgmaker made a spiffy program, ComicLayouter, that does all of the editing for you, so all you have to do is take pictures and use that to render the final product.

Other tips:
-Zoom into your backgrounds to get the most use of them.
-Play with camera angles, character proportions, and poses.
-Keep your dialogue trim. If a character has to have a monologue, split it up between multiple frames or bubbles so the reader doesn't get overwhelmed by a wall of text.
-Remember to have fun. At the end of the day, it's just a hobby.

Turns out I was using AndySnap wrong. It works. Only thing is though is that it zooms a little toΒ the upper left of my screen. It should be manageable though. Thanks for the tips!

Where should we (I) go to ask why a submission was rejected, especially went we (I) don't know who it was that rejected it?
Because it's really been bugging me as to what somebody thought was different in my most recent comic from all my others that caused it to be rejected.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Spaztique In reply to Pokirby [2014-09-13 15:39:20 +0000 UTC]

On the correspondence page, there's a spot where you can send messages to the WSW admins regarding why your entry was denied, and the people who rejected it or agreed with the rejection can answer that for you. (And we can just plain answer you up front. I saw the entry, and it didn't fall within standards of the group for a number of reasons: mainly in that it promoted excess violence and blatantly goes against the group's "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind," philosophy.)

If an entry gets rejected, simply learn what the group doesn't accept and submit something more appropriate next time.

Under no circumstances should you ever do the following:
* Do not keep re-submitting until it gets accepted. We will keep rejecting entries under the same terms, and if a bad entry does get in, we are not responsible for all the bad feedback it will receive. (This has happened before: somebody begs for a bad entry to get in, then complains of all of the negative reviews once it's accepted.)
* Do not block/alienate/attack any admins that refuse your work. This blatantly violates the WSW creed of learning from mistakes, accepting criticism, and understanding others. They had a reason to reject your work, and it's likely the other admins share the same opinion, so do not push aside one admin and seek another. If you've done this, seek to reconcile with the admin immediately.
* Do not make or try to upload works similar to the one that got rejected. If this gets rejected, it's likely similar entries will get rejected as well. Learn from your mistakes and get better as a Walfaser, be it in writing, quality, or any other trait you may need.

I hope this helps you in your Walfasing endeavors.

You know, something's been bugging me about something you said for days and I've finally figured out what it is.
It's the name of this 'eye for an eye' philosophy, or for the sake of simplicity, policy. From what I've gathered from context, I'm inclined to believe that whoever came up with the name didn't know what the phrase 'an eye for an eye' truly meant.

It's fairly clear that the policy is meant to say that the wagon doesn't condone revenge, however, it's a popular misconception that the phrase "an eye for an eye" means "if someone does something bad to you, do something bad to them back", or in short, to say that you should get revenge when the phrase's true meaning is "if someone does something bad to do, if you choose to get revenge on this person, the worst they deserve is exactly what they did to you", or in short, to be used as a revenge limiter.

While I do understand why my comic was rejected, I can't help but feel that if the policy is meant to disable revenge, then a phrase used to say 'don't go overboard with your revenge if you do it' just seems like one of the worst possible choices for the name of said policy.Β Again, I have nothing against the policy itself, it's just the name that bothers me.

It also confuses me how Table Flipping is basically a game of revenge tag, yet its perfectly accepted, but I'll just go with it.

Heheheh, "complimentary table flip and love child," amusing, -and- informative!
though there are a few things that reading this didn't quite get all the way through to me.

So, non-Touhou walfas goes in "comics," generally, if multiple shots, and usually in "other" if only a single frame, though usually on a case-by-case basis, right?

also, I'm getting hints at this but nothing jumps out at me as actually confirming it, when you say "any fanfiction," do you mean just Touhou/Persona 4? or can I, for example, contribute a 40k fan writing here for review and critique?

-Edit-

Wait, what's this about a Table Flipping folder!? This sounds like the height of InSanae.

There's also one important thing that's not mentioned much these days: don't be too hard on yourself. It's just a hobby. While hints and tips are good for helping you improve, it's better to have fun making a hundred bad things (and gaining the experience to make good things) than worrying yourself over one big project that may never come to fruition.

Above all: have fun, I say.

Good guide. But I feel a bit nervous. I'm not good at writing a good story. The only set-up in my mind is with a mute Reimu and her everyday life with Meira. There's also a crossover character Burgundy from Pokemon. With many others having time in the limelight. It's actually based of my other would-have-been original comic. Pan Pan Panic. I just feel a bit worried it might not turn out very great...

Their personalities are as such. Sorry if they're a bit... Off. Just a bit of a prototype.

Sorry if it's long.... It also really changed up their canon personalities a little. And a little bit of backstory.

Reimu: A silent miko that was once scared of other people. But is getting used to them including Marisa.Β She also tries to observe other people not knowing how creepy she's acting. From following people at times to the point of going in their houses and fleeing as soon as she's spotted.Β Reimu doesn't really know how to act human since she was raised by very simple youkai and is more used to being around youkai than people. Sanae also tends to think she's a youkai herself and often picks fights with her.

Not many people visit Reimu. But she appears quite used to having no one around.

Shingyoku (F) and (M): Reimu's parents. They talk. But nobody seems to really understand them except Reimu. They don't really know how things work and tend to freak out alot. They actually started her off as giving her their Yin-Yang Orb and giving her Genji until she learnt to fly.

Totori: A pet bird of Reimu's. She raised it since it was a baby. It often perches itself on her head.

Genji: An old turtle that retired after Reimu learnt to fly. Genji's very wise. But tends to be very lazy.

Rumia: A childhood friend of Reimu's(based around that Osana Reimu vid I saw).

She's playful. But can be quite serious at times and helps Team 9 out of troublesome situations. But not without an "I told you so" to Cirno.

Flandre: A vampire(?) very different from both her canon and fanon. She eventually got bored with insanity and became extremely stoic. She works for Orange's Pillow Company. She doesn't really like how noisy the mansion got lately and takes any opportunity. She also constantly questions her existence due to her being unable to be harmed by water or sunlight and her unusual wings. She even questions if she's a vampire.

Yukari: Reimu's guardian that tends to ditch her often. She teaches Reimu to act human.

She also tends to act like a jerk and use her powers to get new things to play with. But her gap powers tend to backfire at times. Hence why Burgundy is here. Yukari's also very self-conscious about her looks and will overreact at even the slightest flaw.

Meira: A prideful samurai that often acts cool. But tends to get agitated easily. She tends to get very distracted at even the slightest of things. She often visits Reimu just to show off to someone.

Burgundy: An easily angered human who gets in trouble a lot. She acts like Meira. But much MORE prideful. However she never won a fight before. She was gapped up by accident because Yukari wanted a powerful fighter to bring to Gensokyo.

Yuuka: A shy youkai. She doesn't like being around people often. She often buys flowers and loves them with a passion. But can be broken to tears if someone even damaged them. However Yuuka is strong. It's just that she chooses NOT to fight. And only does it as a fight-or-flight reflex when trapped. She's gotten used to Reimu just as Reimu got used to her. And often gives friends a flower as a gift once in a while.

Orange: A small canary youkai. She's the boss of a company that makes pillows and another for flower mulch. She's often very strict. And can often act like Benson from Regular Show. Her hair changes with her emotions. Happy or Neutral has orange hair. Angry has her hair blue. Sadness has her hair a grayish red. She tends to order Flandre around alot.

Kurumi: A vampire who appears to be a hippy. Orange gets constantly annoyed with her van being around her building. It turns out she's her roommate and that they're always fighting.

Mima: A ghost that always tries to bully Reimu and often succeeding in making her cry. She likes mocking people. But is quite cowardly and turns tail should one try to fight her. She neglects Marisa and often needs to be reminded by a depressed Marisa.

Marisa: A mischievous girl that tends to borrow things and avoids Alice constantly. Marisa's generally very playful and talks with people on occasion.Β

But behind that. Marisa's actually very lonely in her house. Nobody ever really visits. So she often sits alone reading books. But if she's feeling depressed. She often visits her mother Mima at Reimu's.Β Reimu also has been following her out of curiousity. In fact. The main reason Reimu's been solving incidents is because she follows Marisa after she's a good distance away to solve said incident and follows her flight path accurately.

Digga. An OC of mine. A mole youkai that cannot see very well when she's not underground. But her digging tends to cause problems... Such as people falling in her holes. She's very apologetic and doesn't know about the problems she causes. But she's starting to keep her digging at a minimum, lighted up her tunnels and made exits for people that fall in. But the tunnels are still quite complex to figure out.

So... What do you think? Please tell me.

No: That goes in comics because it's a comic. Prose goes into fanfiction. If you see a non-fanfic-related thing in there (not counting the images with a fanfic story in the descriptions), they are to be reported for removal.
