Description The water laps at her cold, bare feet,
the waves hitting the shore with every heart beat.
She stares up at the moon,
its glow illuminating the ruins
of this tragic end to her fairy tale.

The lilies dance around her resting place,
the pond reflecting their sweet, swaying grace.
She hangs her head,
her heart heavy as lead
as she lingers on what she has lost.

The ivy runs down the towering trees,
reaching for her with soft, crinkling leaves,
but she recoils, brushing the dark green aside,
the long strands retreating, getting caught in the tide.
The the whole forest hushes as the lone girl cries,

"I offer my everything for you to take.
I lay out my heart. It's yours to break.
I made my mistakes, one after another,
but I would do anything to call you my lover.
I'm sorry for everything-- the trouble I've caused,
but I love you still, and I'll fight all my flaws.
If you'll call me yours and hold me again,
please come to me now. Let our battle end."

The willow trees sigh, pouring out their dark sorrows,
mourning the death of the trust she had borrowed.
She strains to see through the fog and beyond,
searching for what lies across her and the pond,
and there he stands, alone in the brush.

The glow of a lantern shimmers in the night,
the sky seeming dimmer against the weak light.
He gazes blankly into the mist above the lake,
the blue of his eyes cold as his heartache.
Then two doves pass, fluttering in the wind.

Their song fills the air, the stiff silence broken.
The forest rings, from its slumber awoken.
But yet he ponders---still quiet,
his heartbeat the only steady rhythm in the riot.
And his loyalty echoes softly across the water,

"I'll take up your offer, and this promise I'll make:
I'll carry your heart. And, make no mistake.
You are my only, my beautiful, my lover.
This imperfect disaster I'd chose over any other.
I'll forgive all your regrets--the betrayal and lies,
and I'll love you always, if only you'll try
to remember my heart when you make your decisions.
Keep nothing from me, and you'll be forgiven."

A creaking canoe rocks gently in the breeze.
He steps into the antique, paddling with ease.
She stares in awe as he crosses the lake.
He reaches the shore, and her hand he takes.
Then the symphony of the forest falls to a hum.

His gaze meets hers, the blue bright once more.
His kiss mends her heart, healing her sores.
And she holds him close, their love again found.
As he pulls her tight, the lantern falls to the ground.
And as the glass shatters, their passion explodes.

The flame of the lantern now spreads through the trees.
As the fire consumes lilies, the birds simply flee.
The ivy turns to ashes,
a burnt willow crashes,
landing at the feet of two charred, broken bodies, lying entwined beneath the stars.

And the timber rests in silent slumber again,
the still glowing embers riding on the wind.
The doves look down on the chaos of ash below,
their spirits falling as their sorrow grows.
And suddenly, the sky opens wide,
the rain pouring down as the universe cries.
