Who will I become?Will I be like my mother?
Sweet as candy?
Will I be loving and caring
As she is to me?
Will I follow in her footsteps
And always have a hand to lend?
Will I care for others as she does
And help them to mend?
Or will I be like my father?
Hardworking and strong?
Will I stick through the tough times
No matter how long?
Will I be funny and stubborn and yet so polite?
Who knows—I very well might.
I might become a lawyer
Or a parent.
A teacher
Or an accountant
I could journey great distances
Or stay close to home
I could try many new things
Or just stick with one
So many choices
Numerous options
Decisions so hard to make
Many other people’s voices
May command me
Other ways
But the thing I must remember
If all else I forget
Is to listen to my heart
And my own path to take
