The Siberian volvek is another semi-terrestrial gibbon relative from the taiga of Siberia. In such an ever-changing environment with less abundant fruit, the volvek is much more carnivorous than its southern cousins, with its teeth being more sharper and jagged, although it can still sometimes digest vegetation when available. It can also bury its food under the snow for preservation during winter.
An ambush predator, it waits patiently for prey from above the trees until it has the chance to drop down on it when the prey is stationed under or near the tree. Its killing method is also more traditional, which is usually unseen in primates; when the prey is finally captured, it uses its long dagger-like canine teeth to send a fatal bite through the windpipe, suffocating the prey until it collapses before the volvek can feast.
