Description Full view, please.

FINALLY FINISHED.
This took all summer for me to plan out.

My summer assignment for Governor's School.
The topic was "reinvention"...
But I'm worried because I looked on our website and found out we had to reinvent an everyday object, but this is a concept, so... D: Eh.
There were some pretty cool examples on the site if you want to check it out -> [link]

Anyway...
I reinvented evolution, kinda.

I chose to use velociraptors because they were the most intelligent of the dinosaurs (just as humans are the most intelligent of our time)
And because they are conveniently human-sized, and can fit inside a museum. xD

I have an elephant fossil because it is our largest land creature, and the giraffe because it has a long neck.

Representing the human race I have three WWII infantry men. (kind of showing an example of how we die...)

On the wall I have one of the men riding a giraffe nearby a city, representing misconceptions.

So why'd this take so long? x__x

First I had to even make sure I wanted to use this idea. Dx
It took two months for me to finally decide it was what I was going to do.
Then it took a week to think of a museum layout.
xD At first I was going to have a crashed car somewhere with a skeleton in it...
I had to think hard about where I wanted to place everything.
Especially to keep all of the colors balanced throughout the picture...I wasted a lot of time organizing what color I wanted each individual raptor to be. xD

The picture may be blurry in some spots because of the wrinkled paper. u__u
This is watercolor & micron pens.

Please comment. D:
(That's my sig underneath the giraffe skeleton)

Great image, shame about the lack of feathers but clever none the less.

I do have to point out though that a close relative named Troodon is the smartest dinosaur, about as brainy as a fox.

Yeah there are some flaws in my facts, though this drawing is sort of old. If it were more recent there are definitely changes I would make

Velociraptors were not human sized but were dog sized and probably had the intelligence of a crow (Still pretty damn smart seeing as crows can use tools)

SpeedLimit-Infinity In reply to forkhead12 [2013-01-28 00:54:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, smarter than a majority of the other dinosaurs is what I was going for, and any small upright-standing dino that could be comparable to a human.
I mean I did do my research for this project, there were some raptor species that were human sized but results varied depending on the source so I stuck to what could have been possibly incorrect but good enough for me.
I'm not the dino expert or anything. Just an artist with an interest in science as a whole.

Is fine, I just want to spread the word sorry to sound preachy, usually I only go against people saying feathered raptors are lame and kind of subtle attack people who draw giant microraptors (Micro the names says it! and think it is the actual size or call Triceratops Brontosaurus.

This is nice except for a few errors (which I'm sure you're aware of but you did this for kicks)
1. Too large to be Velociraptors (Utahraptor would have been a more appropriate choice)
2. Lack of feathers on the dromeosaurs there mate
3. The dinosaurs have bunny hand syndrome, did all their arms get broken lol?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

SpeedLimit-Infinity In reply to Ikechi1 [2011-10-28 00:53:43 +0000 UTC]

Nice, bunny hand syndrome xD Yeah, I was aware of their hand awkwardness. I thought I had the size pretty accurate though o: ah well.
And the feathers is something I haven't been able to investigate enough. You could say I was going for this stereotypical view many people have on dinosaurs and was reflecting on misconceptions in general.
Who knows xD thanks for the comment though

Ah, um ^__^;; Gee.
I must have looked at outdated images. I had a dinosaur book with images of the velociraptor, and it was relatively the same size of the human. And feathers were not included. :c

Perhaps the Velociraptors of the mind? or the future, from space!?

I'm just curious how these saurs can make museums, but not clothes, tour guides, plaques or velvet ropes. The men have more creative talent?

Brilliant idea. I love the detail you put into the models! The color's great, as well. I don't think I could have come up with something this creative or cleanly done.

One small suggestion: the perspective is a bit off. You want all the angled lines (where floor meets wall, etc.) going towards the same spot on the horizon. Yours are all in slightly different positions, which throws the viewer off -- particularly the two more obvious ones, the hallway by the arrow and the second hallway. (Basically, it looks like the upper left side of the room has risen higher than everything on the right.) Making all of the edge-lines be in the same direction would make it look much more natural and flat.

Thank you C:

I'm glad you said something about the floor because I was hoping I wasn't just seeing things. I suppose that's what happens when you try to finish a project on low sleep.

lol I love this idea!!! 8D It's so unique! And I think the flow is perfect. My eye's drawn around the entire picture. And the first place I looked was the raptor at the bottom, middle part of the pic. X3
The markings on the raptors really blend well with the rest of their colour. The skelletons are quite epic too! It must have taken a while to draw and ink those D:

Amazing job!!
