Description Well, here's the piece I've been working on the past few days! It features 7 swordsman that all come from stories involving time travel! Why'd I choose 7? Probably because of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

For those of you who can't figure out who the characters are, I'll list them:

(From Left to Right)
-Crono from Chrono Trigger
-The Prince from Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
-Future Trunks from Dragon Ball Z
-Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
-Ulrich Stern from Code Lyoko
-Future Hiro Nakamura from Heroes
-Samurai Jack from...well, Samurai Jack

As for the creatures, I made them up...I figured that if they had been bad guys from all the different franchises, that it would take the focus away from the 7 swordsmen! So instead, I created some giant creatures, with some more "time-related" motifs; such as the hands of the clock on the eyebrows, and the hourglass on the chests.

Anyways, I hope you guys like it!

I really like how you kept the looking Samurai Jack, interesting to see more than one art style in one image.

You did a good job making all the characters look close to their styles.

The black bars on the top and bottom are really a nice touch, it gives it that finished feeling of a screenshot from an actual movie.

I love how you gave some homage to some very famous characters throughout the years. I was able to name them all except for two. I'm really liking the motion you have Jack in to, that is very well done, and shows such force and expression.

This is really amazingly done, especially the background. How long did this take you to make? It's awesome!

Haha, thanks! I'm flattered that you enjoyed the piece, and that you think it has a cinematic feel to it!

I started working on this 4 days ago, and finished adding the final touch-ups a few minutes before uploading it!

FreedomBrigade In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 00:00:37 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!

Four days is pretty quick (at least for me) That's really well done! And it does have a cinematic feeling to it, even had you taken off the black bars. Although they do give it that extra finished feel.

Haha, it's all practice, I guess! After going through animation school, you're kinda forced to work fast...either that, or fail! lol

This is gerrat! you have done really well on making clean lines and accurate color choices. What program did you use?

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-14 23:47:57 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thanks! My lines tend to be cleaner, when I do it by hand and scan them in (like in this image), but I coloured, and did the villains, background, and effects all in photoshop!

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-14 23:53:14 +0000 UTC]

That sounds about right. I had figured that it either been that or that you had used sai then moved to photoshop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 00:15:02 +0000 UTC]

I used to use sai a lot, but I noticed that CS5 has the best of both worlds...It has your ability to modify things, while the brushes are closer to the way Sai's brushes are.

Sai is still really amazing, though!

Would you happen to know if CS5 is better then CS4?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 00:20:59 +0000 UTC]

By a long shot! CS4 was only slightly better than CS3...CS5 is a HUGE change from CS4!

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 00:27:49 +0000 UTC]

Then I am most definitely going to try it! I hope it is great~

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 00:51:08 +0000 UTC]

I hope you enjoy it! They even have these spiffy 3D brushes, where it actually is affected by the way you angle your pen! The program is kinda like a mix between Photoshop CS3, Painter, and Sai!

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 00:54:19 +0000 UTC]

I was just thinking 20 minutes ago how great it would be if the brushes moved with my penD: I think I will be able to die happy.

If it lives up to all your praise, I may just put up a little shrine to you and your greatness. Or just watch you lol

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 00:58:01 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I'm sure you'll like it! I just hope you have a decent-enough computer to run it! The 3D brushes do use a bit more ram than the usual ones would! On my laptop, it would chug for me, but on my desktop, it runs perfectly...even smoother than CS4 did for me!

Just as an example, this piece that I did, the filesize was over 1GB, and it wouldn't even chug for me! So if you have a good computer, then the program will probably be like heaven!

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 01:00:58 +0000 UTC]

I have a decent computer. That is dying. But it still runs fine. I can run CS4 on giant files with no problem so hopefully this will work. If only it would download faster! Its only at 17%. I really hope i will be able to run it.

What type of computer do you have?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 01:28:09 +0000 UTC]

I actually had my friend custom-build this computer half-a-year ago. I mainly needed it to be able to render 3D models for my last year of animation school, since the deadlines were tight...

But spec-wise, it's 12GB of Ram, main hard drive is a Western Digital VelociRaptor (since Solid-State was rediculously expensive back then!), and an intel i7 processor. Anything other than that info, I'd probably have to go investigate.

But if you could run CS4, you should be fine! Other than the 3D brushes, I find CS5 uses less memory than it's predecessor!

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 01:40:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I wanted to build my own computer for the college (GO ARTSCHOOL) that I am going to but after paying my reg fee I realized that our school has a computer that they will handout to all the students. It comes complete with all the programs from the whole legal Adobe CS 5, ilife, iwork, office, audacity, corel, BBEdit, Finalcut, Maya, Rino 3D, and some vectorworks.

One thing that bugs me is that it has to be a mac. I love macs and all but I wanted to give windows a try so I could really choose between the two types, but I can't. Well at least I can love my computer. That is all that really matters.

Spidersaiyan In reply to battlepaint [2011-05-15 01:47:50 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I remember the hefty artschool fees...typical artist's curse! I'm guessing you're gonna have to spend a small fortune in supplies too!

Still, I'd take doing art for a living, over crunching numbers and figures any day!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

battlepaint In reply to Spidersaiyan [2011-05-15 01:52:38 +0000 UTC]

OH hell yeah. The school is expensive but I got a hefty scholarship It makes it a little better but man i still have to pay more then the local college. As a painting major it will be a large fortune for my art supplies. Its one of the most costly majors. SO COSTLY.

I can't wait till i am sucessful. I will be able to get money with the right networking. Yay.

I'm glad you dig the concept/technique! Haha, the flash almost didn't happen, but there was too much focus on the area with Trunks and Link, that I needed something to draw the eye back towards the right-hand side of the image...That's where the lens flare came in!
