Description If I could "just get over" my anxiety or bipolar disorder, don't you think I would have already? They're not doing me any favors. I've had people tell me that I just need to 'get over' my anxiety and Avoidant PD and start dealing with people.
Yeah, cool, I'll do that. Except for the whole dehabilitating panic attacks thing and ensuing panic attacks when returning to the situations that caused the first one...

Don't tell people to "get over it" if they have a mental illness. It doesn't work like that.

Should you let it rule your life and use it as an excuse for everything? No. But can you just "get over it" and start living problem-free? Not really.
Besides, do you really think you're the first person who came up with the idea of asking someone to "just get over it"?

My friends are trying to help me, but theyΒ΄re doing it wrong. "You MUST get over it, you canΒ΄t live like this, youΒ΄ll be unsuccessful..." etc. Yeah, because itΒ΄s so easy, isnΒ΄t it?
Anyway, thank you for making this stamp

How I agree with you...
For me, worst is when someone is ill and other just... don't care that it's not his fault and flame him, tell to go to the asylum or die. Or when everyone thinks they are ill, evil and have depression or are insane. And then they bavail about it.
mental. illness. is. not. fucking. funny.
I think the only one solution is to... not tell about it. ._.

Getting Over It = My mother's idea of how to cure my various mental disorders that are very heavily her fault (not that it is working. And she can tell I'm actually getting worse)

Ive tried hiding them, I've tried being an informant. I am working my ass off without medication, trying to deal with my illnesses and do well in my studies so that one day I can help others in my field.

People who say 'just get over it' really get me irritated. If I could just 'get over it' I would have, a LONG TIME AGO. The problem is that I am one of the any who has long standing trauma that caused these disorders and illnesses. It isnt something that is easy to get over.

Thank you, for making a stamp like this.

This brings back memories when I was in the thick of having Social Anxiety Disorder with Avoidance tendencies. Instead of getting support from family, the general air was "just get over it". It infuriated me, they really had no understanding of where I was mentally. My other favourite one was, "It's just in your mind". Hahaha yeah I know that, but just because I knew, didn't make it easier or go away. Tell that to someone with a terrible "physical" disease. The person saying that would get such a shitstorm.....

Ah well. I got "over it" by myself, working it out over 3 - 4 years, but it still irks me remembering how I felt when this is how people dismiss you.

People who say to people to simply get over their mental health problems have never had any mental health problems. Oh, they'll say that they've had x or y but anyone who thinks you can simply shrug off something that is psychological (and, in most cases, neurological as well) has no real perspective on the issue of mental health. These people are hopelessly sheltered from reality and it's really pathetic.

Love your stamps!

I have experienced the same reactions & comments, even from some counselors.

For me, even the meds won't let me "get over it".

I hate it when people say that. I have minor depression, but not so much anymore, it's almost completely fixed now. But when I had it without any medication stuff and I told someone, they said, 'Can't you just get over it?' No. I couldn't. The 'happy chemical' wasn't correctly formed in my brain. I can't magically get over something I don't have.

Thank you for making this stamp.

This is by far the most beautiful and powerful stamp I have ever come across!

I suffer from Borderline Personality Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and
a few others,
and I have heard this insensitive invalidating phrase counltess times.

People have (and still do) told to "get over it",
and I thought and stressed the same thing you put
in your description.

Thank you so very much for making this stamp!
This holds such meaning to me and I am very appreciative.

you have anxiety and bipolar disorders too? D:
those two are exactly what my psychiatrist diagnosed me with... it sucks >___> I also have panic attacks which is my main problem, and I totally agree~ Loud sudden noises cause them. Like a dropping of a glass plate or yelling in either anger or excitement. My mom gets very frustrated over the fact that I start to hyperventilate, i often yell about my chest hurting, my muscles tense up, and i feel like I can't breath, like I'm choking. All she does is tell me to quit it and shut up. I wish i could. It's embarrassing knowing that I was completely fine and not choking or not going to die >__> and I've fainted a couple of times due to mom making it worse. If I could, I would never have another panic attack in my life~

sorry i kind of ranted there o.e all i want to say is great stamp

Oh yes, I know this too well. I have big problems with anxiety and depression, and I had a long period of self harm, and yet people just expect you to stop and get over it just like that. Especially when it comes to the whole social anxiety part, oh, and the cutting of course. People doesn't realise that all these things are real, and it's not that simple.

Ahh thats so true.
I use ignorance as an excuse to justify people who say that.
I suppose they just don't get what
its like to feel the need to repeat things over and over
or feel anxious all the time, or feeling so down that you don't
even want to move. Not wanting to be around people or talk on
the phone or be certain places. Having the best time and loving it
one second then feeling like the world is falling apart the next...

Of course I can get over my social relation dissorders. It's so easy that now i'm just gonna be able to have a normal chat with more than 2 people at the same time, have a group of friends and not sitting alone and quiet on my school, all that just because I dessided I won't.
Just as my attention problems, I just need to focus more and don't distract every 30 secs with any random thing that goes through my mind.
HAH, it's so easy, that's why i'm medicated.

I might not have a serious mental illness, but still...

I know how you feel, people (expecially my roommates) Are always telling me to get over my Bi-Polar mood swings and rages and stop being such a "bitch" And then when I hit the depressed stage they just tell me to suck it up. People who don't live with it just don't understand. And ontop of bipolar I have Paranoia Skitzophrenia(SP?), OCD, Short term memory loss, and I'm Manic Depressive.

Thank you for sharing this stamp, it truely is inspiring to know that I'm not alone.

Exactly. Yes, I've been able to learn to live with my anxiety without many issues but it took years of experimenting with different coping mechanisms, learning to put in the work and just becoming a more mature person. Mental illness isn't stagnant and neither is treating it. It's a long process fraught with ups and downs.

What really pisses me off is when people tell me that ADD isn't real and I should just get around it. Yeah not as easy as it sounds people 8I
Or how about when people want me to get over my shyness and paranoias, because it seems simple right?
Fuck no, you try and immediately get rid of things that have been with you since you were a little kid or forever under a day.
Nng sorry for a rant of sorts, this stuff really bothers me haha. But I guess one of the purposes of stamps is ranting lol.
