It doesn't mean you have to laugh at anything, it just means you're allowed to laugh if you find a joke to be funny

You don't have to have a sense of -dark- humor to have a sense of humor, i get that, but I think I'm the only person who likes dark humor who gets that, and that's the thing that gets to me o.o

You realize that rape victims make jokes to cope with their trauma, right?
Being able to joke and laugh about something really bad is a healthy way to help them move on. If your logic is "jokes make rapists think rape is ok", bullshit. All rapists know what they're doing is wrong, they do it anyway because they're fucked in the head.
Same goes for abuse. If the jokes are not funny to you that's fine, different people find different things funny. But others finding them funny isn't wrong. People will always joke about awful things because they can tell the difference between a joke and it actually happening.
You should also consider something like gallows humor for stuff like this.
"Gallows humor is humor about very unpleasant, serious, or painful circumstances. Any humor that treats serious matters, such as death, war, disease, and crime, in a light, silly or satirical fashion is considered gallows humor. Gallows humor has been described as a witticism in response to a hopeless situation. It arises from stressful, traumatic, or life-threatening situations, often in circumstances such that death is perceived as impending and unavoidable."

what ppl dont understand is that rape jokes can be turned around to mock the offender and not the victim. if its a personal attack, legitimately making fun of a rape victim for being raped, thats a whole nother story but a joke in itself is a joke. i personally fucking hate jokes about rape so i never laugh at them, or give them a reaction at all but im not gonna tell people to stop joking about it in general because if we cant joke about rape, then we cant joke about murder and if we cant joke about murder, then we cant joke about retardation and if we cant joke about retardation, we cant joke about stupidity or fighting or anything at all. its a domino effect, if one joke isnt allowed, then neither are the rest of them

i use to be exactly like those people, i use to be so sensitive about rape jokes for the longest time. YEARS. it took a lot of will power and self-helping to even get past reading the word rape without my nerve endings tingling but once you move past all that shit, you start to realize that these arent threats. they arent belittling the issue. they arent derogatory insults to you personally. theyre just jokes, sarcastic jokes for whatever reason. i started to not turn one joke into a huge deal and even if it bothers me and other people, its just best to move right on and not dwell on one sentence. i wish other ppl began to see it like that but you have to keep in mind how some people handle it. some can handle a joke, some can make the jokes, and some just cant. nobody should get mad at anyone over this

now if they WERE belittling the issue or threatening someone sarcastically, then i will put my god damned fists up and fight a nigga

This, and anything else people joke about that's offensive, including: telling women they belong in the kitchen, constantly belittling them and making them feel inferior, or any other kind of sexist remark/reinforcement; joking about the holocaust and how millions of people were tortured and killed; racist jokes; making fun of gay people, saying things like, "you're gay," or "that's gay" to mean something negative, etc.; Β joking about trans people; joking about bullying (which I actually haven't seen, but I figure it's possible).... And basically any other kind of joke that just shouldn't be funny because in all seriousness, it's just offensive and rude - and if it happens too often, detrimental because the already psychologically conditioned belief is reinforced with each joke made - whether the person/people you're joking about is/are offended or not.Β

Yes, they are. There I said it. It's as funny as autism, death, racism or chauvinistic jokes depending on the context. Bad things are usually pretty funny when you have nothing to do with them.

I've never experienced it, but I really don't like how people throw it around today so casually.

Apparently, racism is meant to be funny now. Apparently, you're meant to laugh when the n-word is said. Personally, I cringe when I see someone using it as a joke or as a greeting, because it's connected to a time when blacks were enslaved whipped and lynched.

It seems that nobody really knows what is right and what is wrong anymore. Nowadays people can do almost anything and have an excuse for it, and people will always accept that excuse because it's calculated so you can't find a loophole.

Zelendur [2014-01-08 06:47:45 +0000 UTC]

It depends. If nobody is harmed by laughing about that topic (for example, senseless OC joking regarding to this topic when no real person is hurt) it's okay. A little tasteless somtimes, but okay.

Β

It's only serious if you laugh about victims, or in front of people who can't take the topic with humour. Empathy and brainscore are the key to laugh about even serious stuff and still not offend anyone with it :3

h-word In reply to Zelendur [2014-03-27 20:39:50 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty horrible though, wouldn't laugh about it. Please don't think like this. Many people are victims of rape even though you wouldn't know about it, and you could offend someone or make them feel bad for not taking it as a joke.

I don't know what you mean though, still doesn't sound like a good idea. <: s

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zelendur In reply to h-word [2014-03-27 21:04:57 +0000 UTC]

Well you know, I just think that I can't adjust my life for the idea of not offending anyone!
I surely don't make rape jokes on purpose, but if someones makes a good joke I find funny I'm not ashamed to laugh.
I can't read minds, and I won't hold back a grin just for the idea of someone being offended. If I see that someone doesnt think its funny I will surely stop talking about the topic and/or apologize, depending on the situation.
It's not like I blame someone for not laughing about it. It turns out a little awkward, but hey, not everyone shares the same sense of humour, so I don't judge anyone if they tell me to please not joke about it.

What I meant is, it's okay to laugh if you KNOW that nobody will be offended. When talking to my best friends for example. I know they can laugh about it, too, so it's no harm. I avoid that topic in public anyway, since I know people are easily offended.

All he does is bitch about his ex girlfriend doing unrealistic things to stalk him, because he knows he's just that stalkable. Then he expects me to laugh when he says that he'd like to chop her up, cook her in chile, and feed her to her family.

Ah, not to offend or anything, but i think he got that from an episode of South Park, where one of the main characters chopped up one of his enemies parents and fed it to him in chili.
