I don't even actively hate wolves.
They're just boring, partially because everybody and their mom treats them as the pinnacle of evolution, existance, and whatnot.
They are not mystical, magical, and graceful; they are big, stupid dogs that will rip things apart without remorse.
They're not even endangered. If you want to save a dog, save the freakin' dholes or island foxes, they're actually endangered.
Get over them. Please.
If you excuse me, I'll be off in the corner loving my vermin animals, because as far as I care, opossums are way cuter than wolves are.

People only like wolves (grey American) for their fluffiness. Not even Euroasian grey wolves get that much attention, I guess because they're not as big or fluffy as their American cousins. 
The point is, if not fluffy, wolf or any other canine, who gives a s.h.i.t about it. That is a true wolf lover for you.
Wolves and canines in general are cool otherwise, just dislike their popularity over nothing.

Actually, there are other different species of wolves that are endangered, but nonetheless there are many other animals that are critically endangered that people seriously need to pay attention to.
Honestly, I draw wolves because they're pretty easy to draw, and once you start off learning their anatomy, it becomes easier to learn other canines anatomy (and in some cases, feline anatomy) although I know there are big differences between the wolf and the dog anatomy. o3o
Plus, I don't think wolves are boring. internet wise, yes. very much. but in the wild, I think they're pretty interesting. Just as much as all the other animals, like spiders 
but once you take into consideration of population, obviously some animals should be looked after more then others (even though that kind of goes against my belief that all animals are equal XD but you get what I'm saying.. I think)
Anyways, I totally understand why you would think wolves are too boring to draw or characterize, and I have no idea why I'm putting my opinion on this nearly 3 year old stamp o.o maybe its because I haven't had the chance to type something like this in a long time... so sorry about the long pointless comment haha

Wolves are my fav animals but GOD they ARE boring.

They really are. There are lots of other animals that live in family groups and hunt. I think thier biggest appeal is that they are fairly pretty animals
