Description
this is one of the things i made for my metals final last semester.we had to use enameling and stone setting, those were our only requirements.
anyway, this is all copper, i made the hinge and the clasp (that you can't see). the faceplate is enameled with some antique watch parts bezel set and then attached to the piece with microbolts. the letters are these metal scrapbook parts covered with enamel.
EDIT: a little more about the construction. the two halves of the locket were made by die-forming two pieces of copper with a die i made, and then soldering the hinge and clasp to them to create the functioning locket. the enameled piece is just a dapped piece of copper with three holes punched in it that i enameled, set the watch mechanism in and letter circles in, and the bezel set onto the front of the locket. it actually is attached to a chain, which is attached to a button loop that is also enameled and resin epoxied.
EDIT EDIT: holy crap! a DD... thank you so much to everyone for checking it out! i really really appreciate all the feedback
03/27/09 just updating the photo.... i learned new photoshop tricks

noice yo.
i'm quite partial to steampunk, and this is a rather fine example.

This is really lovely. I particularly enjoy the texture of the enamel. We're so often "encouraged" to have smooth enamel, but there are times that the kinda orange peel texture is just spot on. And, as a sometimes-steampunk, it's nice to see something of that persuasion that doesn't look like it adhered to the "glue cogs to it and it'll be steampunk!" philosophy. *applaudes*

i wish it did. i made a companion piece that is a functioning watch, but i didn't like it as much.

Truly fantastic, I wish I owned it.
Mind if I draw it and upload the drawing to DA?

Very nice.
I've always wanted to try something like this, but the down side of doing jewelry for a living is that you don't have time between all the ring sizings to do fun stuff.

I am. I landed an apprenticeship right out of high school, working for this old hippie jeweler in Lawrence, KS. I've been doing it now for nine years (pretending for the sake of easy math that I didn't spend most of a year out of work). It's fantastic fun, but no glamor.
