Description A little bit closer look in the states of the USA, a preview for next part of the "What is" series: What is the American Civil War. Hopefully it'll be out in a couple of days, but considering that HOI4 is about to come out tomorrow...

As you can see, state borders tend to be pretty similar, most of the changes are rather small and sometimes subtle. Others have some wild (and admittedly, a couple are ugly) changes. Probably the most notable change is dividing Texas up into two states: Texas and Pecos (Pecos is essentially a stand-in for New Mexico, since America only owns about half of New Mexico.

It should be noted that for the Missouri compromise, the line stood not at southern border of Missouri, but rather the northern border, so Kansas is a slave state. There are only two remaining slave territories (Colorado and Indian territories), both of which are likely to turn into one state each. Meanwhile, there are 3 non-slave territories, likely going to turn into 2 or 3 states each. The balance of power in the senate will eventually come to an end, but the main reason for the war is the main reason that any war seems to happen in this era: Competition between the great powers. Britain and France have been fighting for influence over America since the Treaty of Amsterdam, France deciding to align with the anti-slavers, and Britain aligning to the pro-slavers.

Is of not huge Mexico, is of 2 states! Mexico is actually smaller than it is right now. The rest of it is California (which was originally just a giant wasteland of buffer-zone, but has had a major population boom since the gold rush)
